If I did not lose a singlelb/kg/stone - I would be happy!

I get tired sometimes of seeing posts from people about not seeing results in 1 week. Or people complaining about exercising.
I used to be the same way. I am a 5'8" 52 year old male who hit 205 lbs last Christmas. I tried for years to lose weight by eating 1200-1400 calories. I would keep it up for 2 weeks and then go on a 3 week binge. 2 false steps forward and 3 bad steps back. I would not work out hard because I had no energy, and was "hangry".
I finally started reading posts by some of the long timers here, and I am starting to apply them.
I would like to think that the majority of people on MFP actually like the process of becoming healthier. In addition to people who are trying to lose weight, there are many people here that are maintaining weight, trying to shed body fat, gaining weight, bulking, cutting, recovering from illness etc.
I said that if I did not lose a single/kg/stone it would be worth it! The act of logging what I eat is not a burden. With the tools that MFP gives me it gets easier every day. I use the recent tab, store some foods, and some meals. The barcode option to scan things while I am on the road is awesome. It helps me to be more
consistent
I have less blood sugar swings and I have energy to get through the whole day.
It's not about the scale for me, or even the bodyfat % (Yes, I am about 30% bodyfat and I need to get down to 15% and that means I will need to lose weight). I am concentrating on
fitness goals
I would like to someday be able to...
Run a 5K in less than 27 minutes
Run a 10K in less than 1 hour
Climb on a stairmaster for 45 minutes at 45 steps per minute without holding onto the handrails
Compete in a masters track meet and run 100 meters (I don't care if I am the slowest one, I just want to all out sprint and not die)
Squat 135 lbs in a real squat rack
Deadlift 225
Bench 225
Be able to get through a P90X cycle
Do Insanity
Be able to do a Yoga class
Hike with a backpack and not dread the hills
Play better golf
Be sharper at work
Have more energy for my family.
Be more confident in my appearance
Not really talking about a number on the scale am I??
I figure if I keep these goals in mind. I will automatically
- eat better - log my calories
- work out on a consistent basis
- understand what I am doing - Yes.. that means understanding terms like TDEE and BMR
I will say it again..

The reason is simple. I feel better. And if I keep doing the things that make me feel better, then the results will follow!

Because I know that someday I am going to hit a scale plateau and maybe even gain weight for no reason at all... need to keep the goals in sight.
(also when I do drop increments of weight I understand I have to readjust my calorie goals etc.)0 -

You definitely have the right mentality! You'll go far with this thinking. Good work so far and keep it up. NSV's are really what it's about. I weigh 20 pounds more than I did the last time I fit into my current clothes. The difference this time is I have quite a bit more muscle and less fat... so I am ok with that. I don't have to be 125 pounds, even though that is my "goal weight". If I look/feel great at 140, I will stop there.0

Thanks for this. People ask me what my goal weight is and I tell them "I don't have a goal weight.. I just want to be at a good body fat percentage range and build my lean body mass".

True that, or those posts saying I lost only one pound. I would have expected more. Be glad with the results you do get, all small results will become one big one in the end as well. We didn't gain so much in a few weeks either! Besides getting in better shape, getting a better condition is is far more better option then letting ourselves in with all kinds of dangerous diets. What's the point of looking slimmer, but being sicker?0

I originally joined here to lose weight. When I realized that body fat % was the main problem, that changed my goals completely. Yes, I still would like to lose a few pounds, but if I reached my body fat % goal and still weighed the same, that would be fine with me. (nobody knows that number but me).0 -

^^ Totally Agree. I don't know what my number is going to be. It all depends on my lean body mass.
