I think house work is some sort of exercise you moving a lot, doing stuff, it may not burn a lot of calories but I think it does help, I was going to add that to my exercise sheet but it's not there?

  • I think individual things like dusting are there? Personally I don't add it as it is something I would do anyway so I don't class it as exercise xxx
  • Try typing in "cleaning". I found it that way. I think it's great to add in your housework if it is above and beyond what you normally do in a given day. For example, every 6 months I do a 4-5 hour top to bottom cleaning & I definitely count those calories burned!

It is there as Cleaning.....some people do add it. I do housework anyway - even before I started losing. I only count real exercise. Remember MFP allows calories burned per day (on your Goals - top of right hand column) for "normal" ativities. I could cleaning a normal activity. Now - if you are doing something extraordinary - like moving - I would count it!

I never count cleaning, if I have a particularly good cleaning day, like today, I just count it as a bonus but I consider it to be already calculated into my lifestyle because I might be sweating but I'm not exercising by any means. I consider adding my cleaning the same as people who want to add sex to their exercise totals......come on
  • I think its fine to add it if you are washing windows, car, shampooing rugs big chores... Mowing yard , raking things that count as big activity.
Things you do everyday like washing dishes, making beds, I wouldnt add... is not a reason to add as a exercise daily...

If I'm really deep cleaning and going at it for several hours, I count it b/c I have listed "sedentary" as my lifestyle and I work 2 jobs so I am rarely going at it for several hours. I really am using more energy than usual. If however, this is something you do every day or you are just counting 15-20 min....I don't. It's your decision though, and it is in the database.

I agree with the previous poster. I do a big clean through once every two weeks. I add that as exercise because my profile is set as sedentry, and it takes more than 2 hours. But I don't count the things I do from day to day.
  • I was deep cleaning actually today, but I guess we all see it differently.
  • When company is coming and I'm doing multiple things, one after the other, I'll count it. That is not my typical way of cleaning. Otherwise, I don't count it because it's part of my everyday activities. If I worked outside the house and did a lot of cleaning on one day I'd probably count it.
  • I don't clean my room deep daily, since I'm never home, I'm always away from home at least 12 hours.

So I come home, watch a show, and go to bed.
