losing weight with just couch 2 5k as a workout?

By September 15, I want to have lost at least five pounds and 10 inches.
I might incorporate 30DS as well. Either way, I'd be doing SOME strength training. I just want to know if Couch 2 5k is a good workout or not.
Thanks!

For me, I LOVED c25k and am now on 10k training. I used to despise running and avoided it at all costs, but now I love running. I'm planning my first 5k in Sept, my first 10k in Nov, and I'm trying to raise money to do my first half marathon (in Disneyworld) in Feb 2015.0 -
The way MFP works, it doesn't matter what exercise you do. If you stick to your calorie goal, you'll lose weight. If you exercise, you can eat more and still lose weight.
So I'd pick my workout based on your goals, as the PPs said. If you're happy eating 1200 calories, just do whatever exercise you want. If you find yourself not satisfied, you may want to do something more intense or multiple types of workouts to burn more calories.
I burn btwn 200-300 calories doing c25k. I like to eat 1600-1700 calories/day, so c25k is enough for me on those 3 days. But I do other workouts on the other 4 days. At the moment I'm weight lifting and taking a group fitness class or doing a workout video on those days.0 -
I'm on week 3 of c25k and already ive lost about 7 lbs. In addition to that and logging on MFP and counting calories, ive been doing some blogilates and walking instead of taking the bus too which helps. So yes, I think its definitely do-able!0

Depending on your weight of course, but I burn about 300 calories doing a run building up towards 5k. As you generally run 3 times per week on these programs that's 900 calories per week. There's about 5 weeks left till September 15 so that's 5 * 900 calories or about 4500. As 3500 calories is about an lbs that means you could lose about 1,5 lbs by sept 15. 3,5 short of your goal. And only if you do not eat even one bit extra due to the extra exercise.
You cannot outrun your fork
Is it a good work out? Yes, if you want to run or if you want to build stamina. It's not a bad work-out if you want to lose weight either, it's just slow. But that goes for most exercise.0 -
I lost 8 pounds a month while I was doing C25K and then continuing to run. But mostly that was because at that point I had a lot to lose and had enough fat to support a pretty major calorie deficit. I was short of breath after climbing 2 flights of stairs at the beginning of the year. Fast forward 8 months - I have already logged 55 miles of running this month and I am planning to do a half marathon in October. I made goal weight (lost 55 pounds) and just started maintenance the beginning of this month. Was it all due to C25K? No, of course not; mostly diet. But the C25K was something I committed to and gave me some structure to get out and start exercising. It's easy to fit in to just about any schedule, has little or no cost to justify and it gets you in better shape so you can run even longer distances or handle the gym better. I think it makes a big difference to not easily run out of breath when you start resistance training.0
