Went for my first run

So I just went for my first run since I've started MFP (yesterday). I haven't ran in about 3 months and holy cow did that ever kick my butt. I decided I was going to take my dog and just run around the block one time. It's about .25mi and a super cool day so I figured it would be a piece of cake. I ran half of it with no problem and I was feeling great. Then I reached the hill. This hill isn't the steepest, but it is LONG. I was chugging along up and I could feel my lungs gasping for air and I about died (okay, a bit dramatic). And right when I was about to stop, a car came along and of course I didn't want to stop running while someone was watching so I pushed even harder and then another car and another came. UGH. By this time I was about 15ft from the top of the hill and I just couldn't do it. I walked to the top and a little further until i caught my breath some then finished jogging the rest of the way to the house. I got back about 15mins after I left my house which is awful considering how I once could run. My average mile was about 8:12 which is still slow to a lot of people but that was super fast for me and I was proud of it. Today, I just feel really disappointed in myself. But I'm going to make this one of my goals. I want to conquer that hill. I'm going to work at it every day that I can. I considered taking a different route at first with no hills but that is just cheating myself. I know how great I will feel when I accomplish my goals one by one and that is going to be my first!

I love your positive attitude! You did great! My average is about 9:30-10 min miles. My one mile PR is 9:28. I'm fairly new to running but have done 3 5k's since April, I'm addicted!

Ohhh hun don't be disappointed! That's awesome that you even got your butt out there and ran! It's going to take baby steps before you can build up the indurance. I have been dieting for like 2 1/2 weeks, and I only run in half mile increments. I'm going to do that a bit longer before I work up to running a full mile, and so on. So be proud! You'll totally accomplish your goals, it will just take time! =)

Thanks ladies. I just have to remember like you said, that it is going to take time. That has been my downfall a lot in the past. I will start working out consistently for a couple of months even and when I don't see the results I want, I just quit. I can't do that this time. I really need to focus and dedicate myself to this. It's going to be an interesting journey!! :)

I know! It's so hard to stick to something when you're not seeing the results you want! But inside you know it'll pay off one day.
