Advice needed from large ladies!

Hi, I'm 53 years old, 111kg (245 lbs), VERY unfit but trying to do something about it. I want to start running (thinking of C25k) and have got the DVD for Jillian Michaels 30DS.

OK, now I come to the problem. Whenever I try to do any exercise my 42F girls try to give me a couple of black eyes :laugh: . That's easy, I hear you say. Get a good sports bra.

I've looked, and all the ones I've seen that do large sizes and look like they could control my girls cost £30 upwards and I just don't have that kind of money. I could probably afford ones that I've seen on eBay for £5 but I'm really not sure they'd do the job. Does anyone have any experience of these?

I looked at Under Armour ones at about £16 but they don't do a XXL size any more and I'm not sure if that would be big enough anyway.

Does anyone know where I can get a sports bra that would control my girls at a reasonable price.

Please don't recommend any expensive brands, I really can't afford them. And don't say "But it's worth the investment" - I know, and if I had the money I'd be happy to pay it - but I don't have the money. :sad:

Please help if you can.

    When I was at my largest (nearly 400 lbs) I used 3 regular sports bras to hold my girls in. Now they aren't so big so one really good one does the trick, but when mine were DDD one was just not going to do the job no matter how well it was made.

    I have always worn my most supportive daily bra under my extra supportive exercise tanks...I have DDD's and that is what has worked for me. I can run that way, regular sports bras have never worked for me either.

    I'm with the multiple bra idea too. I have a shock absorber one that was pretty pricey but even that on it's own didn't hold things steady enough at the start. Now I've got a bit of weight off its fine on it's own but in the start I wore that plus a cheapy multi pack sports bra over the top that I got in Asda.

    I've only just got a shock absorber bra from Amazon. Before that I just wore my everyday bra and adjusted it so it was as small as I could wear it, this worked fine for me. Sorry can't be more helpful (I'm 38f bra) :)

    I am just as big as you (42F/G depending on the bra), and actually heavier in weight (261 right now). I got some from oldnavy.com and they will hold you- I got the 3x size and theirs are about $20-25 usd each, so not so expensive as the others. I am very pleased with them.

    I swear by Shock Absorber D+ Max Support Bra, which goes up to 40G, and nothing moves, even when running. It's around £25 but so worth it. You might find last season's colours online. Bravissimo is great for larger bra sizes too, including sports.

    Marks and Spencer

    They have several at less than £20 and regularly have sales. They will measure and fit it for you will order something into your local store for no cost too.

    The other (non-glam) thing to do is get some properly snug strap tops with elastane (from Tesco or something) that will at least keep everything close to your chest wall.

    Thank you all so much for your help! I think I'm going to get some cheap ones off eBay and try the multiple approach. So long as they're held snug to my chest, I'm not bothered about glam. Just don't fancy going into work with a black eye, especially if my boss expected me to explain how I got it!!! LOL

    I'm with EasilyLed, I think M&S do great sports bras and if you happen to have an M&S outlet near you they usually have them in for less than a tenner.

    You can occasionally pick them up (new!) on eBay for around £16. I use eBay & Less Bounce (online UK that specialise in larger sizes and are cheaper than Bravissimo IME). The other tip I would suggest is buy a men's sports compression top and wear that over whatever bra you find most supportive and under a t-shirt. Again you can pick the vests up relatively cheaply on eBay (or if you have an outlet retail park near you with a Nike outlet they sometimes have them at a decent price).
