How do you abstain from eating the chocolate in the fridge?

I'm having a good day, when all of a sudden we go to visit some relative who offers me pies and ice cream and brownies. Or I happen across some chocolate in the fridge. I know I'll regret it a half hour later but I can't stop myself. My sweet tooth is out of hand...
How do you abstain/ find the motivation to stay on track?

I never abstain from anything I really want. I work it out so that what I am having fits within my calories for the day. If I never allowed myself to have the things I love, I would binge on them constantly and ruin all of my hard work. So a treat when I really want it helps keep me going! Just remember everthing in moderation!
Good luck!0 -

I just refuse the pies and ice cream and brownies and as for chocolate in the fridge, I never put any in there.0 -
I DON'T! :-D
but only as long as its within my calories
oh and to answer your question..the motivation to not over indulge is simply because I like being slim and now I've got to that place I wanna stay there0 -
i wouldnt fit in the fridge, so its fairly easy....0

We've had a huge pack of chocolate in our fridge for ages. Seeing it there every day is a reminder that I'm doing well. It's actually a motivator in a weird sense.0

I have a bar of dark chocolate hanging around....1 cube of that kills of my sugar cravings0
-
If I can have it within my calories I will, on other hand if you've sweet tooth cravings try something naturally sweet instead0

I don't keep chocolate in the house for that reason. Hard when it's out of your control like someone else offering. I try to exercise if I have a treat or something extra.0

^^^^ all of this
and to avoid mindless snacking on calorie dense foods you don't even enjoy that much, the solution is to not have them in the fridge in the first place. Then you have room in your calorie goal to have stuff like chocolate that you're really going to enjoy.0 -
Chocolate has no place in the fridge. Room temperature ALL THE WAY
In response the the question: I savour a little taste to melt in my mouth but don't chomp down on more than a square or two. A square is maybe 35 calories? Easy to fit into a healthy wholesome day0 -
I don't put chocolate in the fridge. :P
I actually have a punnet of grapes and a punnet of strawberries in there at the moment for those weak moments.0 -

Beat me to it :laugh:0 -
Don;t buy chocolate and leave it in the fridge0

I like to keep mint dark chocolate in my freezer if I'm having a craving I can break off a small piece (nickel size). Since its frozen I just suck on it and it stretches the flavor until the craving passes, almost guilt free. I'm not a baked goods fan so that stuff just doesn't appeal to me.0

I wasn't able to refuse a slice of cake yesterday because I was with a friend (who I rarely get to see) who offered me some. She just plopped it down the plate. I love her.
But for chocolate in our own fridge, I read the nutrition facts first. If I'm still below my goal at the end of the day, that's when I eat. If not, I just drink a glass of water.0 -
Well the trick is..... don't buy it.
You can't eat what's not there.
But then I work hard enough to have it anyway. The whole block.0 -
Emerald has some really yummy cocoa roasted almonds all portioned out into 100 calorie servings. When I am jonesing for chocolate, I eat those. It does the trick for me.0

I never have it in the house0

don't buy it.
it's much easier not to test your willpower by buying the temptation.0 -
Hmm... when it's not there I don't want it, I never crave sweets, thus I never buy any. If it's there I might plan to eat one as a little treat... then I don't care about going over my calories (gasp, 200cal over? Oh noes!) Seriously, some sins won't kill you0

don't buy it :-D0

Don't buy or just don't eat it. It's really that simple!0

DONT HAVE CHOCOLATE IN THE FRIDGE. simple as that.
If you cant see it you wont eat it, and if you live with others ask them to not put it anywhere that you can see it, if someone asked you if you want food tell them you are dieting and they will be more considerate next time0 -
I do not abstain.
My reward for staying within my calorie allotment every day, is a Dove Dark Chocolate Caramel with Sea Salt. Under 40 calories each and something I look forward to every day. Has worked for me so far.0 -
If I want it, I eat it, and make it fit. If I don't want it, I don't eat it, end of story. I know that that is not the last chocolate, sweet, baked good in the world, so by passing it up today, I'm not losing my one and only chance of ever eating something sweet and yummy again.0

I cant control myself after 1 bite. If i dont take any bites im fine. I try not to keep it in the house though.0

I am with the folks that say they don't keep it in the fridge. I don't keep "bad" chocolate in the house at all. I say "bad" chocolate but what I mean by that is the yummy kind that you can't get enough of (brownies, candy bars, cake, etc). Instead I keep healthier options around for when I have a chocolate craving (dark chocolate covered almonds, skim chocolate milk, etc).
I also never carry cash, so that limits any vending machine options when I'm on the go.0 -

^^ This. I buy something that I really like, hide it from the kids, and have a square or two when I need something sweet/dessert-like. If I didn't do this I would probably find myself mindlessly munching on cookies or some other "treat" that my husband/kids have around sometimes.
But if you can't control yourself around it, you may be better not keeping it around and only purchasing an individual serving when you really want some.0 -
I have terrible will power so when I can, I plan around it. I know when I go to my mom's she will have some type of cake or pastry and I will eat some of it - Ok I will probably have seconds too. I have tried the "eat healthy things before I go" or "bring healthy snacks". Yet I would still have some of her tasty pastry. So I just add some exercise in or cut out something else to have some calories for whatever I eat.
I have a different strategy for chocolate - Dove dark single servings. When I crave chocolate or if I have found that large Easter bunny in the back of the freezer, I can have a piece or two of the Dove chocolate and I am satisfied.0
