Back when I had cable I'd watch BBC America and there was a show.. I can't remember what it's called... but basically this woman would come to your house, lay out all the food you'd eat in a week and it was absolutely disgusting.

I'm sure all the people on the show only lost weight FOR the show and then gained it all back... but still, it really made you think about the foods you're putting in your mouth

She's just bloated and holding water, lol. Which is what you'd expect from eating a lot more sugar and higher sodium than usual.

    Yep.
A week is not a significant enough amount of time for an experiment like this.

The other thing, she was eating 2,250 calories per day. Why did she have to eat the much? I can guarantee if she ate at her maintainence or a deficit she would have stayed the same or lost weight. But she says she is eating more calories than what she would normally so how is that a fair comparison?

Is she the crazy poo lady? one programme of hers I watched, she had the people on it poo in a box and she examined their poos and told them all of what was wrong with their diet from their poo. And on the wall in the bathroom there was a scuplture of what the ideal, healthy poo looks like.

I think you might be talking about Secret Eaters? I watched the majority of all 4 seasons on Youtube, it's interesting what people think they eat vs how much they actually eat. Some were eating 4000 BEFORE lunchtime, crazy. Then they are confused how they are so overweight....

Yeah, I'd tend to agree. I couldn't watch the first link, but read over the second. If the article was accurate there is no way that 5 lbs in 7 days is anything but water and bloating. At 250 extra calories there wasn't enough eaten to be 1 whole pound of fat added. In the past when I was doing a low carb thing I'd lose weight when I cut out bread, but after reintroducing it got some of the bloating and water gain. She went from a more nature based diet to processed foods. The sodium alone would account for that much weight.

It's worth reading this about that lady here -

    http://www.badscience.net/2007/02/ms-gillian-mckeith-banned-from-calling-herself-a-doctor/

Ben Goldacre is a medical doctor who campaigns against bad science and snake oil salesmen of all types including big Pharma.

i know that's what "a lot" of people in the UK eat, but I found it really disturbing and frankly a bit insulting, Most people at least try to watch what they eat, even if its one or two meals in the day. I could never eat like that, and they always dramatize it or find the worst eaters / diet in the world for these shows or documentaries. there was one a few days ago saying exercise does not cause weight loss

    .....

yes I know. TV is utter ****e these days lol

Of course ALL British people eat like that. ALL Americans eat canned cheese and XXL hamburgers every day, right?
I'm not offended at all, I just find it funny that articles/tv programmes make such huge generalisations in order to sensationalise their sh*tty research

Also: Gillian McKeith is a f*cking psychopath. I would gladly sit and eat a burger in front of that woman. She's roughly the same age as Nigella Lawson...:noway:
