How do you know you are keeping confidentiality?

Hey - So I had a little incident at work that I am somewhat concerned about and would like some opinions...
If you were a counsellor...how would you know when you have broken confidentiality? I have heard "when the person can be identified"...What do you think? Any opinions??

It depends how self-aware the said counsellor was and whether they identified you (explicitly or implicitly) to a third party. If you are at all concerned you should consult your organisation's privacy policy (if it has one) via your human resources department and relevant state or federal privacy legislation. If you are a member of a union - they may have a legal officer who could assist you.
kind regards,

What had happened was that a husband called re: his wifes medication. I thought he was talking about a client that is currently in the facility, but i later found out he was talking about a lady that was recently at the facility but left. Sooo I was referring to the client, and he was referring to his wife. The names of the clients are very similiar, but not the exact same.
The only thing I said was "there is no changes with her medications, and they are all paid for" (referring to my client, but he thought i was talking about his wife). I did not say what the medications were, or what the medications were ment for. I did not say the clients last name or anything like that. I am unsure if I even said her 1st name...since I thought we were talking about the same person.
OMG it is just a nasty situation to be in...and just total misunderstanding.0 -
