I have good quality dark chocolate on hand most of the time. A square or two of that sets me right.
I do this. I buy fancy dark chocolate bars, and I eat one row of squares a night. It's about 80 calories, depending on the brand. I eat them slowly, and savor them. It's easier for me to turn down treats at work, etc., b/c I know I've got my chocolate coming.
Also, dark chocolate is a bit of an acquired taste - stick it out for a while, and your palate will change. Now milk chocolate or gooey cakes taste like... Too much. Fine as a very rare event, but not what I want on a regular occasion.
this sounds great but personally i dont think i would trust myself with the whole bar sitting there!!0 -
make your own home made ice cream using greek yogurt, cocoa powder, and almond milk...srs
this sounds good.....0 -
Whenever I get a sweet tooth, I usually eat some sweet fruit -- pears or mangoes, usually. But if my sweet tooth is particularly bad, I'll try to find a "healthier alternative" frozen yogurt instead of ice cream, dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate, etc. Play around, and see what happens!
And there's also, of course, moderation. If you restrict yourself too much, your body will crash; and if you get your hands on sweets, you'll go into overdrive.
thank you for the advice!!! :-)0 -
Save enough calories to incorporate whatever it is into your caloric intake for the day and enjoy it.....0

hey everyone.
i am eating really healthily of recent, my only downfall is sweet things. i love candy, chocolate, cakes, all of that. has anyone got tips on how they beat their cravings/ habit?
So did I. Found out my love of the sweet stuff was due to an underlying medical issue. I changed my diet due to that issue to LCHF & was able to find relief. I've heard of others who, having cut their carb intake, also found that sugary cravings decreased or went away completely.
I honestly don't know what would've happened if I didn't medically have to limit sweet things & after 3 months of eating this way, I *do* miss donuts, cake, cookies, brownies etc. however, eating this way I've found it easy to stay away from them.:drinker:0 -
I like novelty ice creams - I get my ice cream fix in a prepackaged portion, so I don't have to worry about scooping so much out. Right now I have frozen snickers ice cream. One bar is 180 calories of deliciousness.0

I have a sweet tooth, although I am specifically training for a competition now which doesn't allow the sweets. Moderation, I do not keep sweets in the house and once I weened myself off them the cravings are not as bad. I have a Chocolate protein powder that I can eat almost like pudding which is helpful Beverly International UMP. Making things th ehelp beat cravings, mix natural peanut butter with my oatmeal, the peanut butter with the oats and chocolate protein powder is like a no bake cookie. I also use coffee or sugar free gum0

Hi trianglesfocu, I have a sweet tooth the size of a refrigerator. Sweets have always been a terrible obstacle for me. The difficulty for me is that I cannot eat "a bite of cake" or a couple of Hershey's Kisses. Once the candy or frosting is in my mouth, I am like an alcoholic. I have no skills to take a few bites and then walk away. When I go to the mall, I am distracted by the smells and sights of all the desserts they offer. When I take that first bite and then the second bite and continue on to my second serving, I feel like I black out. Then the remorse and guilt set in. Because desserts and sweet treats are such a challenge for me, I literally have to refuse them. I have to turn my head when I go to an event that serves sweets. I wish I could give you a magical tip that would help you, however, I have to pretend that the sweets are the enemy and look at them with disdain and contempt. I cannot even put one bite in my mouth.
I'm EXACTLY the same way. Yes, it must be like being an alcoholic. My biggest problem is the sweets and junk food in my workplace. Years ago, I quit smoking, and went through the same tortured cravings for the first few weeks.
I have fruit, usually an apple, that satisfies my need for something sweet.0 -
I have something sweet most days, usually an iced cappuccino or some other sweet coffee drink. About once a week, I have something more decadent, and occasionally, I go all out and really indulge. It's good for my sanity.0

1/8th to 1/4 tsp of cayenne pepper in hot water. Drink it down.0

I fully agree with eating what you like, but planning for it so you don't exceed calories. With that said, the more you limit sweet things to start, the more you're lose your sweet tooth. Give yourself 3 months of abstaining, and you just won't crave it like you do now.0

Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches
Blend 1 cup Almond milk + 1 tbs peanut butter + 1 scoop of chocolate protein powder + ice. ( I personally think it tastes like a chocolate milkshake)
90 cal Fiber One brownies. Put in microwave, top with 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream
A couple squares of dark chocolate topped with a tbs of peanut butter0 -
diet soda
drinks sweetened with stevia
nonfat plain greek yogurt sweetened with stevia and topped with something like Hershey's cocoa or fruit or...?
diet bars0 -
I grab a handful of grapes and snack on that when i get a craving. Today instead of grapes to satisfy my sweet tooth urge, i ate a juicy peach (so juicy it was dripping all over the place)0

Dole banana dippers0

I'm the same way. I highly recommend the snack size weight watchers fudge pops. They're chocolaty (YAY!) but only 45 calories per bar. I love chocolate and ice cream but I'm terrible at keeping my portions small, so these are perfect. Case in point- I ran out the other day and was craving peanut butter + chocolate and made the mistake of getting a bag of reeses miniatures. I CAN'T just eat 2 or 3 i just keep getting one more... one more. Totally blew my calorie goal like 3 days straight because of that.0

Totally with you about having a sweet tooth the size of a refrigerator!
I'd gotten set in my ways that things that should really be occasional treats, were fine to have every day. If I saw a movie, I'd devour a king-size bag of M&Ms and a chocolate ice cream - but "it'd be okay!" because I was seeing a movie! Yeah, no... I'm a film studies major, so I see movies a few times a week... and therefore would have that 900cal binge a few times a week too.
For the first few weeks of my weight loss, I didn't allow any sweet treats at all. No candy, no ice cream, etc - my cravings were curbed with fruit, or nonfat yoghurt with stevia & cinnamon. I found that over time, my cravings actually subsided! I'm not hankering for candy or chocolate ~all the time. It just takes patience.
One of my all-time favorite 'treats' now is nonfat plain Greek yoghurt with about a teaspoon of low-sugar lemon jelly crystals mixed in - tastes like a decadent lemon cheesecake but is actually under 100cals. Insane. Berries are also fantastic - they're super sweet but have WAY fewer calories and sugar than you think!0 -
I eat a 100 Klondike Slim a bear ice cream sandwich or a TCBY fudge bar which has only 80 calories. Lots of times I eat a Tootsie Pop. It takes a while to eat, has less that 100 calories and satisfies my sweet tooth.0

I too love sweets---try dark chocolate (or a sprinkling of chocolate chips) with a TON (1 cup) of raspberries, strawberries, some light Cool Whip....tasty and pretty filling (for a dessert).0
-
i have a couple of pieces of dark chocolate when i'm craving something sweet after dinner. right now i love chocolove's dark chocolate sea salt with almonds. if i'm craving ice cream, i make a smoothie with an overripe banana, peanut butter, yogurt, green vibrance, berries and almond milk.
i don't keep cookies, cake, or ice cream in the house. if people at work bring in donuts or anything like that, i just don't go into the break room until they're gone (which doesn't take much time!).0 -
I just have something small like a kids size chocolate bar or a couple of Jaffa Cakes :-)0

Honestly, I've found that having a smoothie every morning has really helped curb my sweet tooth. I no longer am going through my day craving something sweet because I had it first thing in the morning. And it was good for me. I also have little peppermints and gum with me at work if i want something sweet, mint is really overpowering and you generally don't want to mix any other flavors with that. I've been meaning to make a batch of frozen bananas on a stick covered in melted chocolate and whatever other toppings sound good. If it is the middle of the day and I'm craving something sweet, I will have a protein bar. There are plenty of nutritious brands out there with dessert flavors to quell the sweet tooth, plus they keep you full longer. These are the many random things I do to stop the sweet tooth from winning.0

I have a big time sweet tooth too. I actually really love dark chocolate, so I keep a bag of bite-sized treats around. That usually does it. There are also tons of ice cream, frozen yogurt, etc treats that are low cal. Something I read recently was to have your "dessert" for breakfast. Have your fruits or something sweet in the morning. This will usually curb the cravings later in the day and you aren't snacking late in the evening.....and sugars before bed aren't an issue.0
