Not Hungry..what to do.

Options
Hello,

I started using MFP in order to keep record of what im eating as well as a target calorie goal. Im using body media device that updates my exercise and this gives me a target goal of what im striving for each day. IM supposed to eat 1990 calories a day in order to lose 2 pounds a week. So im supposed to burn 2990 calories per day and consume 1990 in order to have a 1000 calorie deficit=2 pounds per week.

Some Numbers:
Yesterday's Intake:2089
Yesterday's Burn: 4041(Body Media)
Difference: 1952 burned

Saturday Intake: 2452(Family Outing put me over)
Saturdays Burn: 3415
Difference: 963

My weight loss is going great, i feel like im eating really well and im not desiring sugary snacks as much, plus im losing weight! I've lost 3.2lbs in the past 7 days and 5lbs since i started on August 10th.

The issue...Im not hungry for lunch. I eat a Peanut butter, chocolate, milk, banana smoothie for breakfest along with a cup of coffee with creamer. 620 calories for breakfest(27 grams of fat, 22 grams of protein, 77 carbs)

I know my smoothie is hefty and filling and gets me going for a while..and its quite tasty(Create it in Ninja Blender to go cup)

Should i force myself to eat? I have read stories of people whom skip meals and then the body goes into starvation mode and there metabolism slows down(I def. dont want that to happen)

So im looking for help from the MFP forum on how i should be managing my non-hungry behavior. I desire to eat 1990 calories to keep everything on track..but im not sure what to do since im not hungry. Force myself to eat 700-800 calories?

Thanks!

I wouldn't worry about it. At your size you're able to tolerate a large deficit.

    Id double check your numbers.

If they are accurate, then yeah, force yourself to eat more. Its not that hard. nuts, butter, anything.

Are you able to actually wait clear through until dinnertime, or do you want a snack mid afternoon? Maybe you just need to adjust your eating schedule and have a "late lunch" instead of the traditional "noon meal".

Are you doing 1990 plus eating back your excercise calories, or just a flat goal of 1990.

I have always been of the mindset if I'm not hungry I won't eat it back, because that's how a got like this in the first place. That has never once happened so I don't know what to do. Are you hungry by dinner time? You might be able to make up the calories there?

Also, are you weighing your shake ingredients? With a big shake and a big scoop of peanut butter it may 3-400 calories more than you think.

I wouldn't worry about it as long as you aren't always ending the day with a very large deficit. Maybe add in a calorie dense snack later in the day... or add something higher in calories for dinner.

I'm no nutrition specialist but it sounds like if you not hungry you're fine. You smoothie seems like it's doing a pretty good job keeping you full. Or if you worried about going into starvation mood have a small lunch and then a mid-afternoon snack. Maybe like some fruit for lunch and a granola bar later.

    I hope I helped :)

at such a high calorie breakfast, if you arent hungry at lunch time then dont eat. If you were eating much less at breakfast I would say eat but I think you're cool

Maybe try to just eat something. It doesn't have to be the full huge amount but maybe just try to eat a snack, a banana or something so your body knows that it is still getting food and won't slow down your metabolism.

You can skip lunch. Just eat more at dinner. Or don't.

You won't have to worry about the mythical "starvation mode" until you get closer to your goal weight.

You will not go into starvation mode in one day. Have you never heard of intermittent fasting (IF)? Google it. It's perfectly okay to skip a meal. Personally, I don't eat breakfast, mostly because I prefer a larger dinner. Anyway, do some research, you'll be surprised at how much you are over-thinking it all.

You're gonna get fat, probably will happen as soon as today.

Eat when you're hungry, don't eat when you're not hungry.

I have days when I'm not that hungry and I don't hit my goal. Inevitably, the next day or a day after Ill be a bottomless pit. Some days,I go over because I like wine too much. Since I ebb and flow throughout the week, I try to follow to my weekly caloric intake as opposed to daily (unless I'm really saving calories up for a doozy of a weekend).

I don't believe in the myth that if you skip lunch you are going into starvation mode. If, overall, you are healthy, your body will tell you when it needs to eat.

For effective weight loss - don't skip meals. Your breakfast shake sounds great, but I would ease up on the carbs. Try to keep protein and carb ratio close - that way you will be able to eat lunch.

Nah. Just skip lunch to go into starvation mode. I heard it reverses the night eating damage.

    Here is my two cents

    1. Large breakfast
    2. Medium lunch
    3. Small dinner

work well but make sure that you're eating enough that you don't feel lightheaded and make sure to drink enough water. What you might find is that your food needs change as you shed those pounds so be on the look out for that.
