Anyone else crave salt/starch?

I couldn't care less about sweets. I crave salty food. Chips, french fries, sourdough bread, crackers, top ramen. I'm looking for food ideas to satisfy my cravings.

Yep. I'm way guilty of eating those and passing over sweet stuff. What I do is I keep a bag of baby carrots in the fridge and then put a bit of balsamic vinegar and seasoning on it. I think in total like 14 carrots plus the seasoning comes to around 70 calories? I'm not entirely sure but it's far less than chips. Or mix it with something else crunchy but just keep the seasoning part of it. Kale chips and dried veggies are also great - crunch but without the starch.

Salt isn't horrible to have in a diet but it does make women especially retain water weight. I've found drinking a bit of tea around mid-late afternoon helps keep it in check. I usually drink some kind of herbal tea but you could always try the regular kind.

As for sourdough bread, that was just one of those things I had to quit and haven't found a great replacement. :-(

Definitely, I crave that and spicy foods!

I really like the Veggie Chips they sell at costco, also, seaweed salad is awesomely low-cal and will kill a salt craving.

Unfortunately, I crave both chocolate and salt.

But, I was craving salt so badly last night that I ate 3 pickles and drank a cup of pickle juice. I know... gross. But, I take Spiro for acne & it makes me crave salt like crazy.

I bought some lightly salted rice cakes and pair it with laughing cow cheese. My favorite flavor of the cheese is Light Creamy Swiss.

From time to time I'll switch from wanting carby stuff (bread, omg, nomnomnom) to wanting salty stuff. At that point I'll eat pickled anything, furikake, and dried cuttlefish. Cucumbers or watermelon with a light sprinkle of salt helps ease the craving while still increasing my water. :)

I am all over the map with cravings. Olives, seaweed, bread with EVOO or butter, chips, pretzels, nuts. I use all of them to satisfy cravings.

Jicama is awesome when you have a crunchy craving. Add lime, chili flakes and salt. Delicious! And tons of fiber.
  • I noticed I was craving salt , but also my sodium intake is always well below the RDA, so maybe I need to add salt to my meals
I love marmite/vegemite when I am feeling in need of a salt hit.
