How often do you lift and do cardio?

I am currently 14 weeks pregnant with my 3rd baby. I have exercised through all my pregnancy doing cardio (kickboxing, aerobics, running, etc.), but have never done weights through pregnancy. My current exercise routine is lifting dumbbells doing multiple reps 4x a week for 30 minutes with daily cardio at 30-60 minutes.

What I want to know is how often do you lift, how long do you lift for, and how often do you do cardio? I see some people lift 4-6x a week, others do it every other day. Some people do cardio, others don't. I could swing either way. I'm just curious as to what everyone else is doing.

I'd say I lift 3-4 times a week and I lift for at least 45 minutes each time. Cardio, I used to be better at, I used to do it every day or at least every other day and as I started lifting more, I got away from doing cardio. I really need to step my game up, I have 4 5k's coming up in a month!

I lift weights 3 times a week and do about 50 minutes of cardio 5 days a week. 2 days (weekend) off for rest.

I lift 3 days a week. I lift for however long the routine lasts, usually 60-90 minutes. I do 30 minutes of cardio on lift days. On off days I do an hour or cardio. Usually running followed my 20 minutes on the elliptical. I take one day off a week for rest.

    Lifting - 3x per week
Cardio - only if I'm being chased

I lift 3x a week, HIIT cardio for 20 minutes 2x a week (not a fan of endurance cardio at all!) and walking or yoga the other two days.
  • What is cardio?

Lifting 6 days a week. I run to the gym (.5 miles) and run back. I also do a 5k or more once a week. I like cardio and lifting.

It depends...right now I'm winding down my racing season...during this season I've been lifting 2x weekly using Jim Wendler's 5/3/1 strength program with his 2x weekly variation. With running so much and preparation for races, anymore than 2x weekly just kills me.

Once the season is over I will go to either a 3x weekly split or 4x weekly split...still following the 5/3/1 program. Cardio will largely consist of a maintenance run once or twice per week and some recreational cycling and swimming...my focus will be on lifting.

I would recommend lifting with an actual program. Just willy nilly arm curls or whatever with dumbbells isn't going to do a whole lot for you. Your time will be much better spent doing an actual program...you will get the most bang for your workout buck. I personally would recommend a program that focuses largely on compound lifts...look at programs like Starting Strength, Strong Lifts, Wendler's 5/3/1, New Rules of Lifting for Women, etc. Assistance work should be just that...they should assist those big lifts. Too many people hit the weight room and ignore the compound lifts and just do a bunch of isolation and assistance work...that's *kitten* backwards.

strength train 2-3 days a week.
Run 2-3 days a week when not training for a race, (4-5 days during training)
