Cholesterol

The last time I saw the doctor was in april. I weighed 284 and my cholesterol was 225, trig 167, hdl 44, ldl 150.

Now at this visit I weighed 251, my cholesterol is 209, trig 79, hdl 49, ldl 144.

Is this good progress? I mean the cholesterol numbers, I know the weight is getting better.

Hard to say considering we have no Idea of what type and in what quantity your LDL consists of.......but your trigs and HDL is going in the right direction.

I'm on metformin, I'm not sure what a statin is.

It looks like all the numbers are going in the right direction, great work! Triglyceride levels tend to be related to what foods you are eating, so an improvement in diet will generally bring that down.

So your diabetic. Exercise and losing weight is key to your condition as well as dietary changes that might include higher protein and less carbs.........your improved numbers is the normal reaction from weight loss, good job

Statins are cholesterol medication. I'm trying to avoid them through diet and exercise myself.

They are moving in the right direction for sure. Your tri's have made really good progress, I would work on increasing HDL though. I believe this may be the most important number for women. It looks like some ways to increase HDL are exercise (which I see you're already doing!) and losing weight (ditto) so you there you go. I think best is over 60. (if you smoke or eat transfats, getting rid of those should help as well)

    Congratulations on all your progress!

I've experienced similar changes...diet/lifestyle changes that have helped - more fish in diet (or take a flaxseed or fish oil supplement); using olive oil vs other oils/butter; when drinking alcohol, try to drink red wine. All those, in addition to exercise and weight loss have allowed me to avoid statins (and soon get me off bp meds).

    Keep up the great progress!
