  • Started at 199 lbs and with a MAJOR change in diet and portion sizes, a gym membership, many tears and my blood work that came back horrible for someone 25years old I had to change for my health, my son, my husband and my future. I'm well on my way to reaching my goal. I weighed in at 157lbs and I'm 5'8.

I don't have a proper way to bump this right meow--like with my own pictures of my figure. I'm waiting for "Day 100" of my workout routine to do another status update.
In the mean time, this will have to suffice.

I never thought I was hourglass. I definitely considered myself #teampear. But with all of my starts and stops at weight training, I have managed to make my shoulders look a bit more proportional, so now I look more hourglass, even though there is a several inch difference between bust and hips for me.

I also have straighter hips (high square hip) and a big butt (too bad it is flat!), so I don't always look especially curvy from the front. But measurements are very hourglassy.

    How about before and during:

This is somewhere near my heaviest weight:

This is a nice self pic from today (excuse my horrible expression and bathroom locale.)

Happy to see increasing amounts of waist definition :) Current measurements are about 42(34H)-34-45.

I am close to half way and I have goal measurements/body fat percentage instead of a fixed goal weight

Hip to waist we're built quite similarly. I have straight hips but a medium sized butt. I have a large chest though which defines the waist. I didn't know you could be an hourglass without hips.

My mom's measurements are hourglass top. Her measurement have the same difference as yours 31-23-33. Mine are 36-25-33 right now. My mom has a slight defined waist less than mine though which is already slight.

I have a lot of family with straight hips but big boobs and butt I didn't know they were hourglass. That makes a lot of things more clear on body shapes. Thanks

I haven't taken any pics since Mid July after finishing 30DS but here is the difference of 205-175 (I think) 25lbs lost with diet alone and extra 5 from calorie counting and 9 inches in total from 30 DS

Well it depends. You can have straight hips, but still have hips (square hips). Or narrow hips (typical of apples and inverted triangles). Narrow hips = not hourglass or pear. You do need hips for an hourglass, but the width is key, enough to balance your shoulders. They don't have to be "round."

Mine end up being high since i have a really short torso. Not much space for waist definition. I only have a couple of inches between my rib cage and belly button.

Here is a good pic on the types of hips! Well close.

Mine don't really look like any of those...

Mine are straight my waist does most of the curving. My hips are 33" and I don't store fat there it's just bone. But my waist is 22.5" so we kind of have similar inverse measurements.

My measurements are 36-22.5-33. So my hips aren't round but they make my lower waist curve out. Due to how big they are compared to my waist.

I have high hips too sorta that's the only place my are noticeable about the top because the bones are prominent from my waistline.
  • Btw op you seem more pear shaped to me only in that your waist is only 8 inches in difference to your waist but people measure boobs differently.

I was originally an inverted triangle at 108 lbs.

I know my Bfp was above 20%

    Measurements were 37.5-25-33.

    http://i61.tinypic.com/24gk1kx.jpg

    I'm now 95-100 lbs and 5'1.5".

Measurements are 36-23-33. Bfp around 15%.

Great figure, but definitely not an hourglass, i'd say pear cause pears tend to hold weight in the lower half of their body. In an hourglass your shoulders are relatively the same width as your hips, with very little deviation, and your waist cinched towards the center, you know, to look like an hourglass. Even when you are overweight it will still be obvious you have a waist that cinches in relative to your hips and shoulders. Britney Spears for instance was an hourglass, I think her body shape kind of changed after having her babies though.

Example, shoulders proportionate to hips like an hourglass, there is a balance

I have two questions are you supposed to arch your shoulders out when determining the size or stand like that picture

Anyhow idk if it exists but there is such a thing as a top hourglass so it's not hard to believe that she could be a bottom hourglass if it exists.

For top hourglasses all you'd need were hips and top half to be bigger than the waist but not equal same would be for a bottom hourglass....

Stand straight with normal posture, if you hunch.

    http://sewingplums.com/2012/02/18/nine-body-shapes/

I have read about top and bottom hourglasses and honestly IMO it's really silly....because, for instance in the case of bottom hourglasses, even if your hips are wider than your bust, if they are still as wide as your shoulders you will still be an hourglass. Theres no point in differentiating them really except maybe to have a better time identifying clothes that might flatter you better. So to me top vs bottom hourglass is a moot point. The hourglass is three things, balance between shoulders and hips and cinched waist. It has nothing to do with your boobs, but your shoulders.

In the case of that girl's photos, if you draw a line from her shoulders to her hips, you will see her hips stick out wider. It might be that if she loses more weight then she will lose some from her hips and therefore reveal an hourglass. However as her photos show now I would say she is a pear.

Have a look at Katy Perry's figure, she is busty but her shoulders and hips line up and balance each other

She's an even hourglass not really top heavy. Her measurements are 36-24-35. She's the same shape as Salam Hayek and halle berry. Standard hourglass almost full.

Why is it most body shape calculators focus on bust to waist to hip measurements instead of the shoulders?

Also why do most calculators have a maximum of 3 inch difference in the bust and hip measurements? It's not 1 to none inches usually...

Also top hourglass is the only shape really that directly helps my shape when getting dressed. And my top is a lot bigger than my bottom. Otherwise I'd have to mix tips for neat hourglasses and inverted triangles and add full hourglass to that too in some aspects.. Top hourglass seems to have a different focus added to the general hourglass.

Also there is such a thing as a neat hourglass and full hourglass.

Neither shape's dimensions are rectangles. So what if a person was a neat hourglass on top in relation to their waist but a full hourglass at the bottom in relationship with the waist.

Both pears and inverted triangle are basically "half" hourglasses.as on half is in proportion to an hourglass top or bottom. And the other more in proportion to a rectangle. The waist also plays a role in body shape. I don't believe one can just focus on what the bottom measures to the top as what determines the shape. If you have curves on top and bottom you can't be a pear because pears don't have curves on their top half. If a shape doesn't completely fit an hourglass I kind of see it as a mix.

    http://www.joyofclothes.com/style-advice/shape-guides/the-pear.php
    http://www.joyofclothes.com/style-advice/shape-guides/the-inverted-triangle.php

So if she had some difference with both her top and bottom wouldn't she be in the neat and full hourglass range?
    http://www.joyofclothes.com/style-advice/shape-guides/the-neat-hourglass.php
    http://www.joyofclothes.com/style-advice/shape-guides/the-full-hourglass.php

That's how I see it at least.

^^I've wondered that too. Why do most calculators use the bust as your top measurement? Shoulders makes more sense to me. If I go by bust I have no idea what I am:

    Shoulders: 40
    Bust: 36
    Waist: 29
    Hips: 40

I was always told that bust and hips should be close to equal and waist at LEAST 10 inches smaller. I always consider myself pear but eveyone else says I am hourglass . You can have big boobs and small shoulders though . I dont think my boobs are that big but I have been told I am in denial lol. My shoulders can look broad . My waist is always 10-12 inches smaller. I have found that by losing weight it tends to look more hourglass for sure now

Sorry- here's the link to my pic's

Right, so if you have big boobs but small shoulders, I fail to see how that resembles an hourglass. You end up looking more like a pear from the back, no?

Also I think the waist is a tell tell sign of what you are. If your waist synchs in from the top and bottom you're an hourglass if it only synchs from the top or bottom you're not. Boobs have nothing to do with this the shoulders and hips have to do with this.
