Hello everyone, I am so confused with the amount of calories I should be eating every day. mfp is putting me at 1200 a day and this seems very low to me.
I am 5 ft 4 inch
232 lbs
sedatory life style (on days im at work) 12 hours in front of a computer screen.
46 year old female.
I just need to know how many calories I can eat each day please ? I have read posts on BMR and TDEE and I am just getting myself all confused.
Please can someone just help me and put it into plain terms for me.
I would be sooooo grateful.
Thanks in advance.

Stick to 1200 calories. If you burn 300 exercising, you eat 1500. It's a guide to eating the right kinds of foods that will be nutritionally valuable.0

TDEE for someone your height and weight is 2093 calories to maintain weight without exercise. You can cut 500 calories from that to average 1 pound per week weight loss. TDEE calculators are not 100 percent accurate because everyone is different but you can start with that and adjust as needed, depending on progress and weight loss goals.0

This is horrible advice.
Just enter your info on MFP with the 'lose 1lb a week' setting and eat that. If you workout, you add those calories too. It will probably tell you to eat around 1500-1600 a day.0 -
Thanks Franc127, i have entered what you said and gonna see how I get on.
Wish me luck everyone.0 -
I agree that 1200 is a moronic blanket suggestion that MFP gives EVERYONE that wants to lose 2 pounds per week.
I've been really happy just figuring out my BMR (how many calories it takes to sit around and do nothing) and making that my net calorie goal.0 -
Hi itsscottwilde, do you eat back your cals when your net is calculated at your BMR. I am assuming you do.
I really appreciate everyones advice and input. Thanks again.0 -
Thanks for the thread; I'm still trying to understand this, too.0

Um, if she entered her goals in her settings, and it told her 1200 calories, then that's the right amount to meet her goals in the time frame set. But obviously you everything about how this site calculates and makes its recommendations, so everyone should just wait for your to give your advice before they share their experiences and answer questions. A single website tells you everything you need to know about calories, nutrition and burning fat. Right, jerk.0

Using http://scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/
You BMR Basal Metabolic Rate (which you should always eat at or slightly above) is: 1744
Your TDEE (Daily calories to maintain weight) is: 2093
To lose 1 (healthy) pound per week you'd need eat 1674 daily and re-adjust with every 5 pound loss.
Hope this helps0
