this has been bugging me for months. someone thought I was a foreigner before she heard me speak, in a fairly homogenous country. the first time and the last time someone told me that. so I wonder, like the title said, where do you think I could possibly come from?

I have the same problem. I speak American Standard and have a career where I speak to people on the phone quite a bit, then meet them in person. When I meet them in person, they are frequently surprised by what I look like because I don't look how I sound, whatever that means. I'm Polish, Spanish, and Taiwanese. Born and raised in the USA. So... what the heck am I supposed to look/sound like?!0

PERSIA
as in Persian, like the Kardashians?
Being Persian I disagree, OP doesn't look Persian at all.
And Kardashians are Armenians. Armenia is a Caucus mountains country, and Armenians are completely different from Persians ethnicity.0 -
Well, where are you from?? lol0

your profile says you're trying to lose kg so I'm guessing you do not live in the US. if you were in murica everyone would just assume you're latina and move on. the suspense is killing me, what IS your ethnicity?0

So you're saying that you live in a "fairly homogeneous country" - meaning that you are the same ethnicity as most of the people around you and yet someone assumed you were a foreigner? Maybe you should've asked them why they thought that. It might not have had to do with your ethnicity as much as what you were wearing, how you do your hair, etc.
I can't figure out what ethnicity you look like from the two photos, sorry. Somewhere close-ish to the equator.
ETA: My official guess is Polynesian, maybe Maori?0 -
You are a child of the universe
No less than the trees and the stars;
You have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

Hi
Your question brought this poem to mind, it is the end of the poem.
I am from Ontario Canada, outside of Toronto
We have always been Multicultural
If someone asked me "What I was or where I came from, I would answer based on their tone
1. I am a Proud American (Canadian what ever country) and that is all that matters
2. Or I was born in _____, but now I am a Proud American etc..........
But my favourite is I am a child of the Universe.......0 -
