Unfortunately, it's not only on Youtube. A friend of mine went to see a dietetician and she told her not to eat after 7 pm. She also told her it was no use using a regular scale because she was doing zumba and that she probably was putting on muscle. Wait, whaaaaaaat?

I just wanna grab this damn girl & strangle her.

Really....so full of poop it's not funny. There are 100 & 10 year olds following her advice. This is a new generation of idiots now.

  • Forgive me, but which bits of this video are people disagreeing with?

I actually do a lot of the things that she's suggesting and it certainly helps me to lose weight. Different things work for different people, of course, but I'm genuinely confused about what the problems are with her tips.

Would be very grateful if someone could explain it to me. Thanks :)

What's wrong with not eating after 7pm? I do that during the work week when I know I will not have much time before going to bed to get ready for the next day...

The time you consume your calories does not matter in weight loss or to your body. It is all personal preference, like yours.

I may be missing something as well. A lot of things this person is talking about is what a lot of Drs and nutristionist tell us to do.
I am not seeing anything wrong with this either.

Message I received from video- Drink more water, eat less crap, get more rest, watch portion control, and it's important to exercise. That doesn't seem overly harmful.

Really I'm the one full of poop. Ok

So tell me when you realize that you re 80% full? That's the advice given.... I don't have the ability to feel full at all so for me 80% would be never. People who overeat would not know when 80% is because they eat till FULL.

So when is that magical cut off? I expect everyone who agrees with the video then to stop counting your calories & just eat till 80%...I'm betting you will go way over your TDEE daily.

There are 11yo & 10yo girls in the comment section following that advice. As well as one person who says they are 169cm tall & weigh 45kg & STILL want to lose weight.

Yep so full of poop I am that I should get off that high horse.

Wait what was that about dont eat 3 hours before bed cause your metabolism slows right down & that breakfast will speed it up?

Or the par where just a simple glass of water upon waking will also speed it up.

    :noway:

Sugar from soda turns into fat so fast....... oh wait.....

sorry my horse just died from laughing.
  • Really I'm the one full of poop. Ok. So tell me...

Thank you for explaining your viewpoint in a bit more detail. I think the issue is that you've taken the video on face value and only on the information specifically presented in it, whereas I was identifying with the principle of what was said and applying it to everything I've already learned.

Here are more specific responses to the points you raised:

    1. "So tell me when you realize that you re 80% full?" - I thought this was similar to my personal rule of stopping eating when I was no longer hungry, rather than when full. Once you feel full, you've already had too much. If you're simply no longer hungry, then you're done. I tend to stop every now and then whilst eating to assess whether or not I'm actually still hungry.

    2. You're correct that it's worrying to see young girls trying to lose weight when they don't need to. However, I didn't see anything in the video actually encouraging children to do this? It appeared to be aimed at people who genuinely need to reassess their lifestyle and make healthy improvements. She was a healthy-looking girl explaining how she stays healthy.

    3. "Wait what was that about dont eat 3 hours before bed cause your metabolism slows" - Personally, if I'm actually hungry then I'll eat regardless of the time. However, I believe there is some truth in the frequency of eating having an effect on your metabolism as well as your blood sugar. That's why anyone with insulin problems finds they feel better eating little and often. It's also why blood glucose tests require an overnight fast in order to obtain a proper result. Blood sugar and metabolism are linked, so what you eat, when and what exercise you do can all have an effect on metabolism. My endocrinologist has been very helpful with my questions about metabolism, so I'm simply sharing the knowledge here.

    4. "Or the par where just a simple glass of water upon waking will also speed it up." - I believe there may also be some truth to this. What she hasn't explained is that it needs to be a cold glass of water. Drinking a liquid colder than you will lower your body temperature. This then causes your body to react as it will use energy to try and raise your temperature again. That's why you're recommended to eat ice cream when you're cold - it will make you shiver which raises your body temperature. It just forces your body to kick-start a reaction. Apparently you should drink tea when too hot in order to cool down. Neat, huh?

    5. And yes, sugar from soda does make you fat. There's really nothing good in there.

I think it's actually really valuable to discuss different ideas and share the research that each of us has done throughout our weight loss. We should discuss and evaluate the conflicting evidence that's presented online more. But it should be just that...a polite discussion. No more arguing please, people?

:blushing: Other than this girl's slightly irritating voice, I really didn't see a whole lotta of anything, that made me want to gather the villagers with torches & pitchforks in hand, to rally at her doorstep.

    ::shrug::

Lots of what she's said works for me.....being T2D, eating dinner early (before 6pm) and not eating much of anything after that insures that I'll be seeing double digits for my FBG the next day. This sets the tone for the rest of the day. Eating till 80% full also works very well for me as I'd become accustomed to eating till literally full, this also helps to regulate my BG's and low BG's equal weight loss for me, actually it's more like normalizing my weight from being overweight....the rest of it doesn't sound intrinsically harmful.

    Institutionalized.

That's what we called it back in the day when I was in foster care as a teen. Being so influenced by the foster care systems we lived in, made some of the girls literally unable to function 'out in the world' as we used to call it

Wrong! Calories consumed after 7pm are commonly known as "Demon Calories" because they head straight to your gut, hips, and thighs and instantly become fat cells. Demon Calories have never been known to stray to the chest area. Ever.

Well, it is Labour Day for the US and Canada. I don't know where you're from to know if you have it as a holiday too.

Well see I take no notice of holidays not in my own country so I'd have no idea. Just like I'd assume people from the US & Canada take no notice of holidays elsewhere.

It was rather rude of that poster to assume that everyone was on holiday
