Tapout XT or Insanity??

I've never felt like I worked my abs too much with TapoutXT. When you do the 17 minute abs workout DVD, he pairs it with a workout that isn't ab intensive. And to quote Mike Karpenko, "If you want abs, you got to work them." The way he planned the workouts make sense to me and it got me the results I wanted. This saturday is the 90th day for me on TapoutXT and the end of the first round BUT I'm going to do another round!
It's not about what you "feel" like:
The reason that, in P90X, they have you do Ab Ripper X 3 days a week is because the regular workouts don't hit the core. In TapouT XT they do. And yes you do have to work for them if you want them, but there comes a point where it basically becomes pointless. This is why powerlifters who do compound lifts, crossfit athletes, and gymnasts will never do a single situp or crunch or any ab-specific exercise. Their core gets plenty of training through total body movements.0 -
I'm doing program for 6 weeks now and I don't agree it is badly planned. I think it focuses nicely on different parts of the body. 2 workouts are dedicated on core and most have some core workouts, but it is ok to have a dedicated ab workout once or twice per week, after workouts where there is a bigger focus on lower back.
Only in first week I scheduled 2nd legs workout one day later, because I was still sore from Plyo, but otherwise the cycles are great imo.
I'm doing sports all my life even professional level, I'm not fitness expert though I admit that, although I know a thing or two. But I alawys advocate how you "feel".0 -
I've done Insanity, asylum, p90x, great results with those, along with JM wk-outs
now started end of wk one Tap Out Xt, liking it a lot, working on the results, it's a 90day program and so far great calories burn and I really love it0 -
Insanity is mostly cardio... if you want to build some muscle too, there's another MMA-based workout that only requires dumbbells: George St Pierre's Rushfit, check that out too.0
-
I have been considering Insanity...so all of these posts also give me some ideas! Thanks for posting the topic!0
-
I'm in my 5th week of Insanity right now. While I like it a lot, I think I'll be doing Tapout XT next, if I can afford it, that is.0
-
Did a round of Insanity which I loved. Now doing TurboFire. I like TurboFire but am not so good at keeping up with the choreography therefore my burn is not as high as I would like it. Might have to check out Tapout.0

Tapout XT will be the next program I purchase. I love Turbo Fire and I had a hard time keeping up at first but I made sure to do the new to class in the beginning. It allowed me to get use to the steps and gave me a break to catch my breath at the same time. It also made me burn more because it was a little longer. Turbo Fire is my go to workout. I love it.
From all the reviews that I have read about TapOut, is that because of the use of the bands you actually build a little muscle along with burning fat from the cardio aspect. That's exactly what I'm looking for.0 -
I've heard from a few people who have done Insanity and TapouTXT that TapouTXT is better because they felt like they geared the workout towards a higher percentage of people, whereas Insanity is limited to a certain small group of people. I am almost done with Month 1 of Insanity, I am going to finish the program and then take a week off and go into TapouTXT. Once I have been doing TapouTXT, I will do a comparison on my blog on here and give my opinion.
I honestly haven't noticed much of a weight loss with Insanity so far. My weight has shifted between 2-3 pounds. But we'll see what happens as I get into month 2.0 -
I've tried Insanity twice, am going through tapout now, and have done p90X before. Only thing I will say without hesitation is if you have knee issues (I have osteoarthritis in knees) Insanity, especially month two, is TOUGH on your knees. Tapout so far I love because as mentioned before it's very core intensive, and it's easier on your knees than Insanity because it's more a full body workout, but I will say it's not the same full intensity level as Insanity.
Regardless, best of luck on whatever you do!0 -
I just started Tapout XT today. Am trying to log my calories into MyFitnessPal app, and I can't find a chart to show the calories burned per workout anywhere. I wish MyFitnessPal would list popular workouts in their workout section.
Suppose I will need to buy a heartbeat/ calories watch, or do a bunch of math like you guys suggest (

I did about two month of TapoutXT, and while I like the individual workouts, I thought the planning of it was just kind of thrown together like one of the previous posters mentioned. I've done P90X and Insanity all the way through, and Insanity is the only program that has really shown me massive results (went from 207 to 183, waist went from 39 inches to 35). The other thing I wasn't a fan of about Tapout was that I have gained weight (back to 192, though I know that some of that is muscle at least) and I never really feel that drained, exhausted feeling that I had while doing Insanity. That being said, I'm creating my own Insanity/TapoutXT hybrid 60 day workout. Hopefully the two of them combined will get me to my goal of being more cut.0

i tried insanity and it was a good workout. However, it is hard on the joints. My knees started to hurt so I stopped using it. I've heard of others who stated the same thing about insanity.0

Yes Jonnyoffthesp - that is what I'm concerned about - I've been doing Insanity for the last 8 months religiously and kind of ready to try something new - but I lost about 16 pounds with Insanity and I don't want to gain the weight back or gain any weight back. Has anyone else gone from Insanity to Tapout and gained weight back?0

I'm 60 days in Tapout and I love it.0

Hi All,
Very informative posts.
Here's a silly question, I'm on the 2nd floor of an apt building and I think all the jumping is not going to be helping my floor, nor my dishes. Nobody is below me so that's a plus...
Should I be concerned on any of these? I have done P90X before and I tried Insanity at a Friends house...but never did Tapout.
My goal is to loose my gut but keep my muscle, I am what you would call "off season" bodybuider shape but I do want strength and condition, taper up and keep the lean muscle0 -
Neither! I'm starting Les Mills Combat April 8th and can't wait! 11 types of MMA! Kick it baby!!0

I was wondering the exact same thing today.0

I went from insanity to TapouT and I didn't gain weight but I did not lose any either.0

So weird that this re-surfaced today. I am finishing up Week 6 of Les Mills Combat (LMC), and I am thinking of either a.) an LMC + Tapout XT hybrid or, b.) straight into Tapout XT. I actually looked on the Tapout XT site and some thorough reviews of the workouts, and have created a 90 day hybrid that alternates LMC and Tapout every other day. With the Ultimate Warrior kit, you would have enough to rotate to give a good balance of strength and interval-based training. I have just had so much fun with the LMC program that I don't want to let Dan and Rach go completely...at least for now...
I know there are some Insanity + LMC hybrid schedules out there, but I have a martial arts background and am loathe to give it up!0 -
Here's a TapouT XT and P90X 90 day hybrid someone posted on Dropbox.

I love TapouT XT!! I agree with the abs being important! I have completed the program twice and am now on XT2!! The extra abs are killer and paired nicely with workouts that aren't as intensive as the other dvds.0 -
I have completed Tapout XT and Insanity. I got great results from both. But I preferred Tapout XT.
I never got bored and I feel it has more strength building in it.
I did a review of Tapout at http://www.squidoo.com/tapout-xt-review-and-results-will-you-shred.
Now one thing you could do is do Tapout XT get the muscle growing and then follow it with Insanity.
Good Luck0 -

I was considering that but the instructor just seems too damned obnoxious.0 -
Just a question..... I have purchased tapout xt, thing is I love walking and the odd jog, so would it work for me to add 3-4 hour walks a week, we have a dog and I love being outside especially this time of year Summer is coming to the nz!0

If you're not in any ankle pain after a workout it shouldn't be a problem0
