Barring that it's probably just standard bumps and scraps with delayed bruising. My legs are always covered in scratches and cuts I can't place or explain.

I have the exact same thing, legs and everything. They aren't painful at all just very unsightly. I have a bunch of little ones on my left thigh, and I just discovered another on the right this morning! In for anything anyone has to say =)

I was hoping it would be an easy fix I have been vegan for a few months now thought maybe I needed to supplement or something but I guess the doc will be able to tell me anyways

could well be anemia. common thing for lots of people, especially those who avoid red meat. Have your iron levels checked and supplement as advised by your doc.

If you regularly take aspirin, ibuprofen or similar over the counter medications this can cause very easy bruising. Some birth control pills can cause easy bruising. There are also inherited conditions that cause easy bruising. Some vitamins and other similar things, especially fish oil and the like can do the same. What ever it can be your doctor needs to do blood work and figure it out. Some of the medical reasons are too scary to mention and I won't because most are too rare to automatically jump to that conclusion without proper tests. In other words Don't put this off

That might be it. I went through a low fat vegetarian phase, and that random wake up and lots of bruises thing happened and I had no idea why. Now I am eating lots of meat again that stopped happening.

I have chronic anemia, and excess/unexplainable bruising is how I know I'm getting too low in iron. Bruising is sometimes delayed, so they're not from bumps in the night so much as the day or so before. Simple things like my handbag bumping my leg while I'm walking will leave me mottled when I'm bad. Definitely see a doctor seeing as you've changed your diet, get your bloods done, just so you can work out what areas of your nutrition might need to pay attention to as you go :flowerforyou:

Edit: Also, if you do find it's iron from the tests, research a little; if you want to absorb any of what you ingest you need to have vitamin C with it to aid the process.

I don't think you'll ever go wrong by upping your spinach :). Please do see the doc, though. blood work is a good thing to have done, especially if you're dieting. Good luck!

edit: I posted this before I saw the above post. What she said :)

Easy bruising is a sign of iron deficiency, so if you have recently gone vegan, it's highly likely you need a supplement. I was iron deficient and would get bruises from the most minor bumps.

also a sign of Vit K issues.

I bruise all the time- like it's insane. I've been living that way for years- not that big of a deal but I know I'm typically low on the scale for Iron as well as K. It is what it is- those are good places to start- past that- hit up your doc.

i agree that you should see your doctor about it. Unexplained bruising could be a medical condition that you're unaware of. do you notice that you bleed easily, say, when you're brushing your teeth?

    Obviously, see your doctor.. but..

Do you sleep with anyone? I notice that when I sleep alone (travel/business), I don't have bruises. When I sleep with my boyfriend, we both have bruises all over our legs. Upgrading from a Full sized bed to a King sized bed really helps.

My first thought was that it was an iron deficiency. You should see your doctor. Zinc can also help heal bruising. Spinach is good, but it's not going to be enough for iron deficiency. Red Cross has a good list of iron rich foods. Eat iron along with vitamin c. Some things that inhibit the absorption of non-heme iron are: dairy, calcium, tea, coffee, antioxidants (except vitamin c helps). So, you can still have all that stuff (well, except dairy, since you are vegan), just not in the same meal as your iron foods (when trying to correct an iron deficiency).

I was able to go to walk in Thursday and saw the doc here on post. He had some blood taken but gave me a good multivitamin. He thinks I am just anemic but I go back next week just to be sure.
