Upper body issues

When I do bicep curls, tricep kickbacks, rows.... pretty much anything upper body. I feel it in my shoulders rather than anywhere else. How do I target other muscles? My shoulders are getting plenty worked, but all the other muscles aren't being targeted.

It sounds like you're not properly isolating the muscles that you're working on. For example, on the biceps curl...are you keeping your upper arm stationary at your side & only moving your lower arm? Or are you swinging the arm creating upper arm movement. I'd recommend at least a single session w/a personal trainer, or ask the staff if you're part of a gym, to show you proper form. If that's not possible, then the book, "Body for Life" by Bill Phillips really explains how to do exercises properly.0

Standing upright row, pull-ups, lat pull downs, bent over rows, machine rows all target back muscles. PecDec, cable crosses and flys target chest. Building up your upper back and chest will make your waist appear slimmer. These exercises will also increase bra size w/o increasing cup size. However, the real reason you want to do this is they all contribute to upper body strength and decrease the possibility of injury to your lower back if done correctly. A lot of these exercise are neglected by male gym rats because the want to concentrate on big arms and shoulders. Your goal should be a useful, athletic body. These will help you get there. Picking up luggage and slogging it across the airport (if you don't have a man to do that) will be easier if you build up these muscles. So will picking up children. In fact, picking up men will probably be easier to.0
