Under in calories, over in carbs.

It is my first day (yay) and I am actually pretty fulfilled right now. I still have an apple I will need to eat, but I already calculated it for the day. :)

Anyways, when I saw my day one report I noticed that I was under in calories but over in carbs. I did look online to see if this would affect my weight loss goal, and from what I read the consensus was that counting calories or counting carbs are just two different ways to lose weight. One will permit for fattier foods, but works because your carbs are still restricted, and one works for healthier foods but works because you're restricting calories.

My breakfast meal is typically some cereal or oatmeal, as I don't have time in the morning to make eggs, or bacon, or whatever. I can do a shake, but it gets old fast having to clean the blender nightly and gather all the materials. I don't feel eating instant shakes or Slim Fast items are a good replacement, as they leave me hungry and don't really taste all that good. If it's not easy, my second option is to either eat an apple on my way to work/school or to skip breakfast. (I usually drink juice).

Also, the app on my phone only shows me if I exceeded my calories for the day, not anything else, so it would make it harder for me to keep track unless I was home, which isn't too often with school and work.

I would like some feedback, if you guys can. :)

Great to have you here, you've made the most important first step. Believe it or not, eggs are very fast to make in the morning. I usually cook 3 eggs over easy in a pan quicker than microwave oatmeal. I drop on a little shredded cheddar and sriracha sauce and bam. Breakfast. Protein packed and yum.

Limiting carbohydrates without also limiting calories will not make you lose weight. Eating too many carbohydrates will not make you gain weight unless you are also eating too many calories.

The ONLY way to lose weight is to eat fewer calories per day than you burn. :-)

I hard boil three days-worth of eggs Sunday evening and keep them in the fridge, just take one out in the morning and eat with whatever else I'm eating.

Hmmm...on my phone app, there is a nutrients button on the home page ghat tells me I was under in carbs but over in sugars for the day and on the diary I can tap on an individual good and wed what nutrients were in it. (My overstep in sugar was from a full fat not sugar free caramel macchiato. My regular barista was off today. She knows I prefer sugar free syrup, but I walked off the extra calories so it isn't a huge deal.)

Having told you where to find it, I am going yo tell you don't stress over it. Carbs aren't evil...but if you want eggs instead whisk them in a plastic bowl then microwave for 1.5-2 minutes. It is as fast as pouring a bowl of cereal for me.

Thank you! :D The thing with eggs is that I only eat them scrambled. I am not sure why, but that is the only way I like them. I think it partly has to do with the texture of easy/medium eggs. I am not huge yolk fan either, unless mixed with the whites. However, it would be a great option for when I have the day off.

And, thanks for your help as well SomeGirlSomewhere. :D I feel better now. I was pretty worried this would all be in vain. :(
  • Oh! Thank you Melissa! I didn't even notice that! And thank you for the reassurance. I will obviously try to keep everything is decent balance, and as I go on make better choices for my food break ups, but I am glad that I am not ruining my efforts by being a bit over. I did know that I could tap the individual good, but I have a hard time tracking all the individual values so appreciate the counter for me. Easy to do.

I will try the egg tips I have seen here. I just feel that weening off too many grains would be a good idea. Perhaps look at alternatives for sandwiches besides wheat bread. I think wraps are better.

I need to work on exercise right now too, but I am currently injured so exercising it a bit hard at this moment. But, I am healing at least so I can do at least some walking on a treadmill or something.

Thank you all for your advice and tips!

Carbs don't have magical fat gaining properties, so if your under on calories your fine.

You can also scramble up some eggs with vegetables, etc. over the weekend and store them in individual servings and reheat for breakfast. That's actually what I did today :)
