Ugly feet are not only expected, but are almost encouraged.
WHAT! You mean I'm gonna get ugly feet?!?
Not necessarily. I don't have ugly feet but my toenails are bad. They turn wonky colors I keep them painted so people have stopped asking about purple, green, brown, yellow. They also split, tear, fall off, etc. I file the tops of them so they are very thin and that does seem to help. My pinky toes are somewhat deformed but no one ever seems to comment on that. Usually it's "Why are you missing a toenail?" or "Did you know your big toe is only painted half way?" and then after a second, "My God, 1/2 your toenail is missing".
Properly sized footwear prevents this.0 -
I've got a stinky pile of running clothes to be washed by week's end.
The only shoes I've ever spent more than $50 are my running shoes.
I would NEVER spend $60+ on a pair of jeans or slacks, but I'm tempted to buy some running tights at that price point.
Because, in 2 short years of running, I've become the office "running/exercise/nutrition guru!! (which is hilarious!!)0 -

I was crazy excited the other day the town repaved most of the streets I run on and they are now nice and smooth and all the potholes are gone.
I am 65 and I can say I am only going out for a fast 5K. After our running club finished 5K the other day I did another 2 miles for my Saturday 5 miler
Because slow or fast I run. When every one asks if I play golf I say no but I run the golf courses early in the morning when I am on vacation0 -
Oh man, I could go on and on.........
•Almost every tim have dreams about showing up to a race late or forgetting something very important like shoes!
•go into Starbucks more often to use the bathroom than to actually buy coffee.
•have a drawer full of medals and other race souvenirs that I'm not sure what to do with.
•lost a toenail. And you tell people, "It's not that bad
•have more running clothes than regular clothes in the laundry pile.
•no longer hate port-a-potties. In fact, I'm very very happy to see one.
*anything over 8min pace is a recovery, warmup, or cool down run0 -
You spent an hour making a playlist for a run that will take 30 min. :explode:
High five*
A new playlist always makes a run more enjoyable for me!0 -
You wear hideous sunglasses
You drive to far away places just to run there. When people ask you where you went and why, you feel embarassed and make up a lie.
You've ordered something from roadrunnersports
You've experienced heat stroke unfortunately
You put your head down when you cross paths with other runners
You run on Thanksgiving, Christmas, Christmas Eve, New Year's Day
It's raining outside and the perfect idea to you is to go for a run!0 -

1. When my family and friends ask me for info on my running shoes
2. When everyone in my circle knows what time NOT to call or text me
3. When I stopped using my car to go to the CVS to pick up Aleve
4. I have a tube of Biofreeze in my purse, back pack, bathroom, bedroom and at mama's house
5. My dog is tired of running before I am
6. Husband now buys me compression socks, instead of flowers
7. When MY KIDS CAN NO LONGER KEEP UP WITH ME!!!
:drinker: :flowerforyou:0 -
I like it when my legs feel sore as it's proof I run0

You've injured body parts you never knew existed0

ok so i'm a bit confused about the colorful toenails here? What exactly is happeneing to your feet people?!!!
I guess I don't run enough to have this problem, but every Sunday morning I get up at 7AM and run for about 10K. I do have some blisters, calluces and lots of peeling gross skin on my feet though...but never got the colorful toenails.....
I do share some things with other posters though:
- I bring my runners with me when I am traveling or visiting friends to squeeze in a run
- I spend way more time in sports stores, or sports sections of stores looking for running/workout gear and shoes
- Bananas and energy bars have become a house hold staple
- I talk too much aobut my running and training and probably annoy most of my friends (but I have MFP for this!!!)0 -
I FORGOT ONE!!!
I started to pay attention to the type of roads that are in my surrounding area, LOL!!0 -

you're doing it wrong.... :noway:0 -
I have to walk backwards down stairs backwards from time to time. :happy:0

I wore it as a source of pride when I lost my first toenail
My ankles are complaining in the morning
I have a permanent mark on my sternum from sports bra chafe (I do much better at managing that now!)
I hear a song and my first thought is.. that'd be great to run to
I look outside and think... oh it'd be a great day to run
When I need a safety pin, I go to my past race bib drawer
I decide to go for a "short run" and get home 6 miles later
I know how to manage... cramps, gas, burps, and breathlessness... and I figure if I don't have any of those at some point in a run, I didn't push hard enough. lol
and mainly...
because I get giggly, giddy, fist pumping excited when I walk in the door after my run, and find myself wondering why it's been so damn long since the last time I went.0 -

Sometimes on longer runs when your feet swell you end up with the black toenail. I find that shoes that are a smidge too big when walking, and good socks minimize this for me, but don't prevent it.0 -
You have distances between certain landmarks memorized0

I don't think this has anything to do with your shoes/socks. I started getting purple toenails when I started running longer than 10 miles. It's the constant pounding on your feet, especially if you're a forefoot runner, that causes bruising in your toes. It's not really a big deal.0 -
... I ran a half marathon and did NOT experience DOMS in the days following (and it was my best time and my first time ever NOT Gallowaying a race).
... I know what "Gallowaying a race" means.
... I know what "sub 10's" means.
... And my friends congratulate me on it.
... My dog stands by the door and whines whenever I've left the house b/c he thinks I went running without him.
... My physician and I talk about running instead of medical issues
... when it was really hot outside the other day, people were not surprised to see I still went for a run over lunch, but still called me crazy.
... when crazy is a compliment that means dedicated, discipline and commited.
... 10 miles is no longer a daunting distance.
and the obligatory:
... because I run.0 -
I will spend serious money on good running shoes - more than any other shoes or boots.
I have a whole drawer in the bedroom dresser just from running clothes, complete with running socks.
I have specific gloves and headband for winter running.
I bought an ipod shuffle just for running.
My half marathon medal is in my curio cabinet.
I am happy when I run.0 -

Proper shoe sizing will prevent bruises/lost toe nails. I've run 7 half marathons and a 20k, plus various races of shorter distances and have never lost a toe nail. Now I run in vibrams and have STILL not lost a toe nail.0 -
- I bring my running shoes with me when I travel so that I can try and squeeze in a run
- I absolutely love going to the running store for new shoes/clothes
- I talk about running / training for my half marathons way too much!
- I have my half marathon medal hanging from my book shelf in my room
- I have an iPod shuffle that I use for just running
- My weekly short runs are now at least 4 miles (who would have thought?!)0 -

Hmm, well I'm not saying wrong shoe size won't damage your feet but... I had my shoes specially fitted for me at a running store. They are the most comfortable I've ever had. I run 30-40 miles a week in these shoes and the problem only started when my long runs started exceeding 10 miles. I don't actually have any discomfort on these long runs, though.0 -
Haha just kidding0

This is what I was told by a shoe fitting specialist. They always put me in a 1/2 size bigger than I'd wear normally to prevent the toes from banging against the front of the toe box. As a result, never had a black toe nail. I followed the same sizing guideline when I ordered my Five Fingers and have not had a black toe nail from them either. Been running since 2007. I've had a host of other issues (ITBS, PTT, sciatica, etc) but no lost toe nails.0 -
I have dedicated an entire portion of my closet to running/workout clothes.
I have half a shelf in my pantry for energy gels/bars/etc.
I get more excited about spending close to $100 on running shoes than high heels.
I know the exact distances to nearly all major intersections in my neighborhood.
I get up at the crack of dawn or go out in the heat of the late afternoon just to get a run in.
I plan weekend plans around my long run.
I started using racing bibs in my home décor.
And lastly, because I just get out there and run.
Yes, yes, yes, yes......
I plan my holidays around places I'd like to run!!0 -
Running in the rain means I don't need to carry any water.0

it's snowing and icy outside you simply put spikes on your shoes and think it's perfectly normal...no marathon was ran on a treadmill, right?0
