I can do one! I never thought I would be able to, but here I am! How long can you hold your plank?

I always stop at a minute even though i can go more. I just do 3 sets of 1 minute plank with a 15sec break in between. Come the end of my 3 set im struggling to hold it though.

Currently at 1:45 -- Love that burn!! Started out not being able to go more than 15 seconds!!
  • I just tried it and just barely got there! Thanks for the challenge.
  • well done!

i like plank supersets side - front - side 30sec x6 with no rest.

like above with straight up planks i generally stop at a min myself.

I can do about 40 seconds per plank at this point, but I hate every single second of it! Oddly, I have endless endurance for most other core/ab exercises.

I am noticing that most responses on here are saying 1 minute at a time.... Is it bad to go over a minute?? Will it cause damage to the body or be less effective by doing more than a minute at a time?

I can't plank more than a few seconds. Then I saw this video of a 71 year old lady planking for almost 37 MINUTES and figured I've got a lot of work to do. It truly is very inspiring to see. http://youtu.be/N6kyZYZB0MM

Depends on the day. If I'm on my elbows I seem to be able to hold it longer but I think that's because my butt is too high in the air. On my hands, I did a minute today, with intense shaking for about the last 15 seconds of it.

When I was in ROTC we had to do 10-15min planks. It sucked lol.

I think I've only barely squeezed out 2 minutes. My MRT class record is held by the only consistent guy at 2:48, and my entire gym's record is held by a lady who clearly takes no prisoners at almost 7 minutes! Motivation for me!

OK, I know this will probably sound like a really stupid question, but it is a serious one. How do you time yourself? I work out alone so I do not have anyone there with me to time me and I cannot figure out how to do a timer myself. Of course I have a stopwatch on my phone, but how do you hit the start and top button while in a plank position. (Please no smart remarks, I am serious in asking this question. :embarassed: )

I just add about 2 seconds to my timer so that I can get into the correct position.

I can only do like 30-40 seconds at the moment.... I've been working on it and hope to be doing 1 minute at some point, soon.

I have my mobile phone in front of me and press start on a timer when I'm in position :)

I do this too... place it right next to my hands and hit it when I get set.... it doesn't have to be exact.
