no measurable loss...so why are my clothes so big?

According to the scale, I'm only a couple pounds down which I wouldn't expect to do much. I measure myself a few times a month and haven't had any substantial changes...and yet my clothes are falling off me. I literally can't keep my pants up- much to my embarrassment/pride.
So what's up with that? If I'm not losing in any quantifiable sense, why are my clothes so big now? Even hot out of the dryer.

Maybe that first time you measured in a different spot, or a held the tape measure a little tighter? If your clothes are too big on you now, you know you shrank and they didn't grow. So I would take that to mean you definitely have lost some inches. :happy:0

You've got me baffled! :noway:0

It sounds like your gaining muscle to me and muscle is more dense so your weight stays higher. Go you!0

I'd say you must have been measuring in different places, its difficult to get a perfectly accurate measurement each time - if your clothes are looser you are doing great keep up the great work!0

Loosing weight and loosing fat is different.Thats all Im goona say

look at is as a NSV......I'm terrible as taking measurements because it's probably never in the same spot. congrats!0

not wanting to sound like a party pooper but it is probably ur imagination. u want results so bad that u think ur clothes r bigger on u. its alot easier to lose weight than it is to build muscle. i would use scale as the test for fat loss.0

My experience has been much the same. My weight loss has been slooooow. But, since about 3 months ago, I can wear clothes that I had put away in a container marked "SMALL". Whether on the scale or not, I count it as a measurable weight loss. Measurable by my body getting sexy again!0

Are you imagining your pants falling down as was suggested?
Maybe the bits you measured wasn't the bits holding up the pants?0 -
I never go by the scale anymore. Clothes that I couldn't wear before are now becoming loose on me. Thats all I need to see. If you are losing inches the number on the scale will soon follow. If you are building muscle then the number on the scale will either not move or even go up as muscle weighs more than fat. Keep eating healthy and keep moving. Good luck on your journey!0

The thing about measurements is that most people only take a few of the big ones. In my case, I regularly do bust, underbust, waist, hip, thigh and upper arm but it's not as if I'm only losing weights from those specific locations. In the beginning I lost a substantial amount of fat on the back of my thighs but that didn't really show up as a reduction in my thigh measurement because most of it didn't happen at the largest part of my thigh. I could see the difference, though. Same with the area below my navel. It's not a part of my waist or hip measurement but I can see the reduction. If I didn't dislike wearing pants I probably would have seen the difference in my pant size or fit as a result of those changes! Additionally, if you're doing resistance training, bodyweight work or lifting, parts of you could be shifting around a bit even if you're not experiencing newbie gains. Some people add in more measurement points to compensate for these types of losses or shifts but I decided to only do the measurements I could do with consistency.0

Ditto this. Congratulations!
At the end of my first few weeks, I didn't see much movement on the scale but I did see changes in my clothing. I'm happy to say I'm good with the baggy/frumpy look for now . Keep plugging away, the weight will come off.0
