What wall color goes well with purple carpet?

And I am talking about carpet, as in what you stand on...the floor :drinker:

I'm moving in to a new office and figured it needed a face lift. But I'm stuck with this ugly purple-esque carpet. I'd like to paint the walls but not sure what color would mesh well with the carpet. See photo below.

Whatcha think?

(and yes, I'm well aware this isn't an interior design website - just figured somebody's bound to have an opinion)

I would say cream/beige, very light lavender, light grey.
  • pick up the grey or light blue. No additional purple for work.

    Red. :3

Or grey. But red is more intense.

Go to a paint store and pick up some paint chips/sample cards. If you don't want to go with a neutral cream/ecru/eggshell type color maybe picking up a very soft shade from the carpet might work. I think with a dark carpet a lighter wall makes the space look bigger.

    something between silver and gray.

Sage and brown like you would see in a field of purple wild flowers.

Pull something from the carpet other than the reddish or purple colors. If you get a color that is in carpet it will pull those colors ( you will notice them more) and the purple will not look so intense. If you go for the redish purple colors than it will make the carpet stand out more. your choice.

It depends on the shade. Take a sample of this carpet to the a paint store. If you can not do that, you can take some paint chips home. I would think you could bring in some yellows and greens. I don't know without standing in the room though.

Gray. I painted my kitchen gray and it looks suprisingly nice, plus it's pretty neutral. Don't me afraid to go dark, it usually dries lighter.

We've got a really nice deep purple carpet in one room and painted the walls cream - it looks great.

I would say a light blue to pick up those hues in the carpet, but wonder if blue would be too depressing for the workplace. Gray or silver may make it feel more like an institution, so I would 2nd the poster who mentioned yellow/beige...something warmer and more inviting...

You could get a really nice gray color... It would accent it nicely

I agree with cream or light grey or maybe that light blue color that's in the carpet.

Light yellow. Yellow is purple's complementary color, and then you will have a soft nice contrast and not be too matchy matchy.
