Help with 8 minute mile

Options
I've been working on a 8 minute mile for over two years... but seem stuck at 8:20. That's the best I've been able to do... even in cool dry Winter weather. I've tried intervals, sprint training, but nothing seems to get my time down. I've been exercising for about 10 years and running for 5 years. I'm 66 and know that effects my speed... but I know guys in their 70s that can run circles around me. Any exercise advise on running frequency, rest times, etc... to build up my speed will be appreciated. Marty

I don't know if you vary your distances or not, but the way I got my speed up was to increase my distance. I was used to running 5ks and trained at that distance. Once I started training with 4,5, and 6 mile runs my speed on those 5ks increased.
