POLAR FT4

I recently got this and use it just during workouts. I wanted to ask if anybody has worn theirs all day, just to see what a normal day of calorie burning is for yourself doing normal day to day things. thanks.

I have one and have often thought the same thing. But I also have a fit bit (which is worn all day and night), so I would look like gadget central LOL
  • what is fit bit? I just want to know the actual number if calories I burn a day. and would I wear it at midnight to sleep???? ahhh

a fitbit is basically a fancy pedometer. it measures how many steps you take per day, how many flights of stairs you climb (it doesn't recognise the difference between stairs and hills, so it counts hills as stairs), how many calories burnt, etc. It also measures your sleep, for instance, I now know that I wake up on average 6 times a night. You can link it with MFP to record exercise. I use it to track my 'walking' calories burnt but noy my gym calories burnt, I use the polar ft4 for that :)

Wearing it all day will give you hugely exaggerated numbers. HRM's are made for steady state cardio and the algorithms don't work for just general activity.
  • what made you decide you wanted a fitbit? can you buy those anywhere?

You can get a fitbit anywhere try ****'s sporting goods or amazon. It does just give you a general burn for a person you size with you activity. For just about the same price you could get a body media band which will give you specific numbers based on your body
