Ideas for breakfast on the go?

I don't eat breakfast until I get to work, and am after ideas for a good, low-fat breakfast. The only appliances I have access to is a fridge and microwave. Any suggestions?

  • bring some oatmeal to work in a microwave safe container... put the serving you want plus some pb2 powder and cinnamon, you can also add flax or hemp seed... add water and microwave
  • Quest bars are pretty good. The one I had this morning had 200 calories, 9 grams of fat, high-fiber, low-carb. It kept me full for at least 3 hours and best of all can be eaten unobtrusively at my desk.

I like to take a protein bar to work with me. If I get hungry I can usually manage to eat it between customers without making a mess.

Another vote for oatmeal with protein powder! Keeps me full for hours.
  • meal replacement shake
tub of chobani greek yoghurt with chopped up banana and/or frozen berries plus chia seeds
instant porridge (individual satchels so you don't go overboard) with banana
egg white frittata (with carrot, zuchini, mushrooms, tomato, spinach - lasts a few days, make a big one & cut up)

This is some of what I used to eat when I ate breakfast at work:

    - Yogurt + cut up fruit and/or Grapenuts
    - Vans Waffle + 1 tbsp peanut butter (This one requires a toaster, but you could pre-toast and microwave later)
    - Your choice of flavored Rice Cake + 1 tbsp peanut butter spread on it
    - Hard boiled egg(s) (or just eggwhites) + Apple slices + 1 tbsp peanut butter
    - Oatmeal + 1 scoop protein powder (also can include fruit, or 1 tbsp peanut butter)
    - Whole grain toast + low fat cream cheese & jam (natural or sugar free)
    - Protein shakes (Bring powder and add almond milk or water when it's time to eat)
    - English muffin w/ Jam + serving of mixed nuts (or smoked almonds)

Hope some of these are helpful to you! Good luck!
  • Thanks for all your suggestions everyone!!

I make a kale berry smoothie (with almond milk) right before I walk out the door in the morning, throw it in a cooler and drink it once I get to work. Oatmeal is another idea.

One of my coworkers makes a very yummy looking breakfast at the office. She leaves the ingredients in the fridge too!

    - Whole Wheat English muffin
    - Spinach
    - 1 egg
    - Slice of Cheese
    - optional slice of meat (sausage, ham, bacon)
    - Pam Butter-flavored spray
    - Salt and Pepper

She toasts the English muffin, but thats totally optional. She sprays a little pam into a clean coffee mug, cracks the egg into the mug, and splits the yoke open (you can add salt/pepper). Microwave the egg for 30-40 seconds (once its cooked it fits on the english muffin perfectly). Put it on the english muffin, top with cheese, meat, and spinach.

I'm not sure on calorie count but without the meat my guess is pretty close to 300-350 depending on your ingredient choices.

Editted to add: this version isnt really "low fat" missed that part before! sorry. You could really change it up though by doing egg white instead of a real egg and skipping the cheese. Good luck!

Quest bars are the best and provide 20 grams of protein which is about right for a meal. The chocolate brownie in the microwave for a few seconds, eaten with a glass of milk is delightful - yummy. Either way, be sure to drink plenty of fluids with them because they have 17 gm. of fiber. Let us know what you think.

I make a double batch of muffins (that I add protein powder to) and freeze them, I take two to work for breakfast .
They thaw a little, and then I microwave them for a minute.

I also make a homemade granola, and bring that to eat at work.

or when those run out - i bring instant oatmeal, or a protein shake.
