the past month has been hard.I've already ba slid a bit with drinking and binge eating and now I broke my foot last sat. so ontop of itall I ccan't work out at all and I'm depressed as hell.its my 5th metatarsal. I'm the type who can't maintain weight with diet alone let alone loose weight. I've been stuck for so long and with my current backslide plus this injury I feel like I'm gonna balloon right back into those extra fat girl pants. I need ideas on healthy bone healing foods and ideas to help keep me and my crutches out out of the fridge...ugh!

Eeek! That does not sound nice.
How about leaving your crutches upstairs so everytime the fridge calls you, you have to crawl to it?
It's the best I can come up with. I got nothing. My apologies.0 -
I broke my leg and ankle in five places last year so I know how it feels! All I can say is try your hardest not to splurge eat... You aren't exercising much remember. I did alot of upper body exercises too which helped a bit just keep thinking that this is only temporary setback - you can achieve once it comes to pass! :bigsmile:0

yeah I know... but its just so depressing. I can't work.I can't even leave the house unless someone else drives me and I just wish I hadn't gone out that one night. if I hadn't everything in my life would be on track and now its like nothing is. ugh!...
lol at crawl to the fridge. yeah fridge ups followed by pizza binges...sure. that's healthy. hehehe.0 -
OP....I feel for you. I broke my right leg Memorial Day weekend and couldn't workout, drive any where, etc. I was also put on bed rest for a couple of weeks because I developed blood clots. I pretty much freaked out the first month and was very careful with what I ate because I didn't want to gain weight. I ended up losing (thankfully). But I know the havic it plays on the mind when you're used to working out and can't. Dieting + working out usually goes hand in hand for me too---I can't do one without the other.
For that first month, my daughter would come home on the weekends and do my shopping for me. She knew I was tryiing to watch what I ate, so she only bought what was on my shopping list (healthy items)....which meant there were no temptations in the house.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.0 -
Do you have lisfranc? I had foot surgery for a broken 2nd metertarsal but it was considered a lisfranc injury. I actually lost 5lbs since my injury date (in may). I have been on crutches, and otherwise immobile, non weight bearing. I'm not sure if the 5lbs were muscle and bone density loss, because I do have atrophy due to the lack of usage on my right leg. Or if it was the combination of getting of birth control due to doctor orders? Or because i signed up for this website!! I feel your pain. I'm stuck home alone, bored, and the pantry is always calling my name.. try and move as much as you can.
When i first started using crutches my arms ached, and i would tire after 5 min. Now i can crutch around for 25-30 min, with out being too tired. Crutching is actually a pretty kick *kitten* work out0 -
I broke my wrist in january so feel your pain. When i had that injury i focused on the injury and simply eating to assist the injury (so lots of dairy, good fats and protein)...it was summer here and working out was horrible as my arm would swell...so i didnt do much exercise....but the good news was when i went for the final xray they couldnt find the original break at all...which I put down to my nutrition0
