Its so easy to go above calorie with junk food!

This is my little rant here Im just sick of people saying Im starving myself when Im dieting Im really not Im below 1000 calories most of the time because its hard to reach a 2000 calorie limit eating health foods but when it comes to junk food its way easier to go above calorie limit. Im just sick of people saying that Im starving myself on my diet when Im really not its just the health foods makes me feel so full.

Okay so from what I can see you aren't really getting over 1k ever...maybe today but wow

Instead of egg whites eat whole eggs...

Instead of turkey bacon which is full of sodium try real bacon

Add some bread with those turkey slices

Full fat milk or 2% instead of fat free milk

2oz of chicken for supper and 1cup of potatoe salad...next time try 6oz of chicken and that potatoe salad

Get some protien in there...what you are eating may be "healthy" foods but you are not eating healthy.

You are a 19 year old young man who eats less then a 40 year old woman...think about that...my 19year old eats me under the table...and he is losing weight.

I took a peek at your profile to view your diary and you have done a great job at the weight loss and you mentioned BF% was imporant....try lifting weights now and eat some food if you do.

There's a difference between high calorie foods and junk foods. 1000 calories is too low, period. Just because something is high in calories, doesn't mean it's bad for you. Nuts, oils, cheese, butters, avocado, seeds, dried fruit, all calorie dense and healthy.

Also, if you continue to eat low calories chances are you will lose your appetite and no longer feel hungry. Not feeling hungry isn't always an indicator that your diet is okay.

    Um. But you are. Sorry.

You're a 6'1 19 year old male. You should be eating FAR FAR more than 1000 calories a day.

Eat more calorie dense foods to meet your goal but I honestly have no idea how you're having trouble here.

Just from going back a few days in your food diary..

    Stop drinking fat free milk

    Eat reg bacon

On what planet is a few slices of lunch meat considered a meal?

Ground beef instead of ground turkey

Eat the whole egg, yolks are delicious

There is still absolutely no way that a few slices of lunch meat and the occasional berries are A MEAL. EAT AN ACTUAL MEAL.

Eat reg sliced bread, not sandwich thins

    Eat reg sausage

Food volume in the diary is not high. Thought I'd see a lot of vegetables, but pretty much just eating a small amount of food.

None of that has trans fats unless you're cooking with partially hydrogenated oils. There are very small levels of transfats in meat, but these aren't the same as cooking with partially hydrogenated oils

Also, your idea of healthy has to be skewed...you're 6' 1" and young...I'm 5"10" and old...I eat for my nutrition and easily consume 2800 - 3000 calories per day.

whole eggs are good for you...cook with healthy fats like olive oil, etc. If a food is naturally fatty like milk, cheese, etc...go full fat rather than the highly processed low fat/ no fat. FYI...if you can't see where this is going, you need dietary fat...it is an essential macro-nutrient. Just do a little research on low fat/no fat and increased rates of heart disease (among other problems)

Like I said, your view of "healthy' is skewed if you can't get your calories in. My 85 y.o. grandma eats more than you...

No...i think you're confusing trans fats with saturated fats...and BTW, dietary fat does not make you fat. Dietary fat is essential to proper nutrition.

    No, it won't.

Losing bodyfat = reasonable caloric deficit+ strength training.

Eat meat. Lots of it. Lift weights. Rinse. Repeat.

I looked back too....you need to eat more. People are telling you this because it is true. Who eats one oz of pasta and one oz of sauce for dinner???? My one year old eats more than that.

Eat some yogurt, cheeses, vegetables. Special K cereal bars are NOT good for you. They have too much sugar and not a lot of anything else.

When Ive first started dieting I was told to eat healthier and replace certain foods with healthier substitutes and avoid fried foods and avoid transfat because Im trying to lose bodyfat then I guess over time it grew so I started getting healthier substitutes and later on ate smaller portions and this method suddenly increased over time and It got to the point where Im eating under 1000 calories. But now Im being told to eat like an average human being but this time lift weights instead also to avoid sugar as well. Should I avoid fried foods to?

Eating fat will not prevent you from losing body fat. However, eating as few calories as you are will ensure that you lose a disproportionate amount of muscle, thus your visual body composition will look as though your body fat is increasing (less toned, skinny fat, pick your definition).

Go to "The Nutrition Source" http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/ for some great info about healthy eating.

The idea that dietary fats make us fat is an older idea based on flawed scientific assumptions. Some dietary fat is important, particularly at your age when your brain is undergoing another major development stage according to recent research about human growth and neuroscience.

Lift weights, eat at maintenance, set your protein macro high enough= slow body recomp. Don't worry about sugar, eat anything that fits your macros.

Sweetheart, you aren't consuming enough food to fuel your body and your brain. Stop eating low-fat everything. I get that you want to eat healthy foods, but anything in moderation is okay. Restricting yourself like this is actually very unhealthy, and is likely to lead to failure and a terrible relationship with food.

Read some of the threads in the Food and Nutrition forum, and educate yourself on what is really healthy. You can have the body you want, and you don't have to do it by starving yourself.

Looking at your ticker you started at 240 lbs. So yes, the advice you got when you were that heavy is going to be different than the advice you get now. What is your eventual goal weight? I would think you are probably there or even less than it. Body recomposition is completely different than just losing weight. Do you want to gain more muscle or just keep the muscle you have and lower body fat? it is very hard to do both at the same time (gain muscle and lose fat. but, you can keep muscle and lose fat). You need to eat for nutrition.

eat all the foods. track your intake accurately, make sure you meet or exceed your fat and protein goals and that's pretty much it.

    Dude you're 19.

Get your *kitten* under a bar and superset squats with protein shakes. You're in your peak period for testosterone production, so you can carry on what you're doing and end up a little twig man or get fit and strong.
  • I think that the general rule should be:
Don't eat lots of simple carbs such as bread, pasta, sweets, chips. Switch to whole grains for your carbs, such as steel cut oats, whole wheats, kashi grains. Try brown rice or whole grain breads.
    Eat lean meats, nuts, cheese
Yes skim milk is fine. No need to get whole milk
Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables
    Lift weights.
You will become more defined in your body muscles, and you will be healthy. No need to cut back that far on the calories, I eat around 1,000 and I am a 50 year old woman, I don't need that much food.

    ^ NO.

Bread, pasta, sweets, and chips are NOT bad foods. In moderation, they're perfectly fine and will not hinder you.
