I am seeing a weight loss specialist and taking phentermine. I see the doctor once a month and I have to journal all my food. I get very little exercise and I still loose weight. If you are eating carbs the phentermine doesn't work. Carbs should only be consumed in the morning, you should never eat them after 2pm. Lean meat and greens for dinner. Drink 32 extra ounces of water everyday. You need to make sure you are getting enough protein or you will loose muscle and not the fat you want to loose.

Since getting on the phentermine, I have had my blood checked for thyroid, iron levels, etc. I have to get it checked periodically because of the medication I'm on for bipolar disorder. The only thing bad was my iron levels.
Like I said, I do walk quite frequently, but I cannot exercise like other people I know. When I exert myself, I feel dizzy and my heart doesn't feel like I can handle it, I feel drained, so I stop. Every now and then I try it again, but cannot do anything other than warmups. I have one of The Biggest Loser's workout DVDs. I barely get through the warm up.

When I do walk, it's for about an hour, sometimes more and sometimes less.

I don't know what stores you shop at, but I wear a size 10-12, and I'm down to 153.5 pounds. My goal is to fit back into my size 9 clothes, which I wore when I was in my 120s.

i spotted in another post you are being weened off the phentermine good. you dropped 10lbs on it so now get off and continue to eat healthy and continue with your walking. you seriously may want to consider eating a bit more (add some healthy food options) and possibly walking more. as for wanting to get down to a size 9 you DO realize a size 9 is a junior size (adult sizes are even numbers - odd numbers are junior sizes). why would you at 40 yrs old want to wear junior clothing. i'm 41 and i hate to say it to you we are no longer juniors.

okay back to your health issues the reason the doctor prescribed that med is because the pharm reps take him to dinner/lunch etc and talk up all the great things it does and they forget about all the bad things it does.

i suggest you go back to your original doctor who prescribed your bipolar meds talk with that doctor about your weight gain and see what can be done. bouncing around from doctor to doctor is only going to get you into trouble in the long run. stick with one doctor that knows your history.

I didn't say I was weaning off of phentermine, I said my doctor is weaning me off of the bipolar medication which caused me to gain weight in the first place. I will continue to use the phentermine because I am not having any side effects, and it's helped me lose 13 pounds so far.

The reason I want to get back to a nine, which is my normal weight, is because I have hundreds of dollars worth of clothes in my closet that are size 9. You may not like juniors clothing, but I sure do. And I'm not getting rid of them. I *will* fit back into them! Darnit!

    FYI:
I have been seeing my psychiatrist for eleven years. I am not "bouncing around doctor to doctor."

You may have misread what I typed in a previous message. I said that I were a size 9 when I was in my 120s, not in my 20s as in age, but in 120s as in my previous weight, my normal weight.

My doctor suggested the phentermine and said I was overweight for my height. I weighed 167 and am 5 foot 7.

    I'm 5'7 and i wish i weighed 167! That's not overweight by much, maybe 5 lbs....

That was 40 pounds overweight for me.

I am confused. My primary care physician suggested I take phentermine because I am overweight, I didn't ask him at all about losing weight, he pointed it out to me. If it's so unhealthy, why did he think it was a good idea?

Me thinks you need a new PCP.

I understand how you feel saying you WILL get back into them. However, why does it have to happen RIGHT NOW!? What is the problem with doing it (what you KNOW is) the RIGHT way by dieting and exercising with NO drugs? I can't imagine that there's any reasonable explanation for adding the pills into it for just this reason.

    Good for you!

I have had several people on MFP email me privately and tell me that they, too, take phentermine, or have taken it in the past.
I was excited when I lost ten pounds within 3 weeks, but it's really slowed down. But, I will keep taking it, because I don't have much of an appetite with it.

I'm finding it really motivating to log all the foods I eat here on MFP.

Why not? I don't have any side effects. I want to fit into a nice evening dress this Christmas for my husband's work Christmas party.

First of all, people need to stop being judgmental. Not everyone who takes phentermine is taking the easy way out. Some people genuinely have a really hard time losing weight NO MATTER how hard they try!! Sister, I would get your thyroid checked for the fatigue problem. Do you smoke? I know I felt like you described back when I smoked and would overly exert myself. Also, you look beautiful in your picture, so don't be so hard on yourself. I understand wanting to get back into your old clothes, I feel exactly the same way, but gaining some weight doesn't make you less of a person...you are still you! No one is perfect, even the jerks on here who want to proclaim everyone can lose weight if they take in less calories than they burn. So, when they are perfect, then you should consider taking their advice. Otherwise, do what's best *and healthiest* for you. Even if you think that means taking phentermine under a doctor's supervision and taking it as prescribed while making sure you do exercise as much as you can and eat as well as you can. And let me just repeat...get your thyroid checked!! God bless you and I hope you start feeling better!

How old are you, 12? Yes, taking a dangerous drug to lose weight is bad and so is encouraging said behavior, but don't bring someone's food diary into it in an attempt to discredit them. That makes you look like a catty middle schooler.

There are things that people have to battle such as hypothyroidism and other medical problems. Until you are perfect, you can't judge someone else's decisions.
