On Youtube one of the channels that I'm subscribed to is called TasteMade. They supply quite a few little unique "how-to" recipes and give some background information in said videos while explaining what to do. A new video came up from their "Thirsty For.." section of their channel. Aloe Vera. At first I was like, what? Aloe Vera smells amazing but tastes horrible (put some on my sun burnt lips once)!

Of course this is me going off on the stuff you put on your skin, so after a few seconds common sense kicked in and I realized they're not telling you to go to the store, buy aloe vera and drink it, haha!

You guys can check the channel out if you want, I learned how to make Champurrado (authentic Mexican hot cocoa) from it, soo tasty!

Here's the recipe for the Aloe Vera drink:

Ingredients:

2 tbsp Aloe Vera (the actual plant)
1 Cucumber, small
1 stem Mint leaves
1'' knob Ginger
2 lemons, juiced
2 tbsp Agave nectar
1/2 cup Water

Directions:

Cut Aloe Vera at the base of the leaf (this will allow it to regenerate faster).
Cut a slab at the widest area. Remove the thorny sides with a knife.
Carefully remove the outer green layer to expose the aloe gel. Flip over and repeat.
Rinse off the gel to get rid of any yellow residue. Place into a blender.
Put the cucumber, ginger juice, and lemon juice in the blender.
Add the mint leaves and agave nectar.
Blend until well mixed. Add 1/2 cup of water, then blend again.
Pour into a glass, add a mint leaf for decoration, and enjoy!

I haven't tried this for myself yet but I am so curious as to what it tastes like. Cheers!

That reminds me of that cactus drink that Dr. Oz or whomever wanted people to drink to "lose weight".
The only weight would be from the diuretic/laxative affects of the cactus plant in the first place.

But I do see a lot of girls drinking aloe water. Wouldn't bother with it though.

Bah, I don't believe in Dr. Oz and his quack knowledge. I just thought it would be a rather interesting recipe to try

We have it in NZ, but I've never really dared to try it.

Try it, I promise it's awesome. I think the original once tastes like grapes, but they have other flavors too.

Well gosh darn it, I'm going to look for some tomorrow. If it's not delicious, I will be blaming you!

You can find OKF Aloe products on Amazon. Definitely like the Aloe drinks in Korea while I was visiting, but can't find that brand online to order. Shelf life for these products are about 24 months. :) Can't wait to get to the states to order so I have them at my house.

Aloe Vera is actually quite good for you as it contains lots of minerals and medicinal agents. In SA we get lots of products and delicatessens made from the plant.

  • I haven't seen that brand, but a lot of asian stores have them, and even some of the higher end deli places.

Just a quick note on Aloe Vera - I am pretty sure it is a natural dieretic (especially straight from the plant) so drink with caution if you are super regular :)
