Half Marathon Training question

Let me give you a brief background first. I have completed 2 5ks 2 10ks and getting ready to run my third 10k This weekend. I have been following the Hal Higdon Novice 2 training program. Last week I completed my 7 mile run. Now here are my questions.

1. I have already signed up for a Half Marathon the date is March 1st 2014.
2. I decided to start training early and possibly do the Half Marathon training twice.
3. The first 12 week training program I will complete it on November Thursday 27th. On December 8th there is the Hot Chocolate race and last year I ran the 5k this year I want to run the 15k. Do you think it is a good idea to run this race after completing the half marathon training. I am not going for time, this race is just fun.
4. On December 10th which will be a Tuesday I will start my Half Marathon training again, That Tuesday will only be a 3 mile run and I will take it easy.
5. By starting the training again December the 10th I should be done (last week being taper week ) the week of February 24 and my Half Marathon is Saturday 1st.

How does this sound to you? in my head it sounds good but I just want to make sure I am making the right decisions.

Any suggestions and or comments will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I would like to hear the answer to this as well. I'm running another 10k on thanksgiving weekend and then I plan to do a 1/2 in May and I'm not sure what I should do training wise.

It sounds like you are over thinking things just a little! Being that you have already completed some 10ks you have a decent base! I would not run through a training program start to finish twice, half training is hard at the end, and you don't want to put yourself into a running slump with training so hard so early! If anything I would repeat weeks of the training plan as you go! A 15k is really not a far jump from 10k, so very doable even with a conservative approach. Whatever you decide, make sure to include some hill and speed work into your training. I overtrained for my first half marathon, started training in January for an April race, and ended up having to walk some, even though I had ran 12.5 without stopping 3 weeks before. My last 1/2 I just continued to run my base mileage and added some longer runs closer to the day. I ended up with a PR and the satisfaction of running the whole race! The main thing to remember is enjoy the sport!! Good luck!
