Completely fine.0

ALL the carbs? Fruits and veg? Beans and lentils?
By all means experiemnt a bit with reducing your carbs, and see how your body reacts. But there is absolutely no need to eliminate them totally.0 -
Carbs help fuel the brain. If you are a diabetic or advised by your doctor to cut back on carbs/sugars, then ok. But if not, carbs are fine.0

Unless you have some medical condition which requires it, there is absolutely no reason to cut out an entire group of nutrients. You CAN do it but it will just make eating 'normally' harder so unless you are planning on never eating carbs again for the rest of your life you may wish to reconsider that path.0

I have been doing that since I joined up & it's working for me ! Obviously there are still carbs in other foods like fruit & veg but they are the good carbs . I saw my endocrinologist on Monday - told him what I was doing & he said that was brilliant & to keep going !0

skipping all carbs, which would include among other things also fruit, vegetables, legumes/pulses etc is not only very difficult to do, but most of all is also very unhealthy. With such a plan you also skip fiber and many vitamins and nutrients. I would not recommend it. Limit processed carbs...yes. But all of them is a recipe for disaster.0 -
Don't skip them entirely.
Maybe just focus on eating the most nutritionally dense carbs such as veggies, fruits, nuts & seeds.
Carbs don't have to be your enemy0 -
Whatever floats your boat.0

Skipping most carbs is fine. Fat and protein are essential marcro's carbs not so much. The only thing I would make sure is that you are still getting enough fiber, vitamins and minerals.0

Thank you so much guys. I do only mean carbs like pasta, rice, bread, potatos and so. I do eat oatmeal, fruit, veggies and nuts. But I Believe those might be the good carbs.0

Carbs help make your brain function the way that it is supposed to. Not all carbs are created equally though. If you want to cut out white rice and bread good for you but I would still get carbs from fruit, veggies and whole grains. I was advised by my Doctor to eat lower carbs but that still puts me at like 50% carbs for my daily caloric intake.0

No such thing are "good" or "bad" carbs. If you mean they don't have much nutrition in them, then okay, but that doesn't mean bad. But some of what you pointed to do have nutrition. Potatoes and a good source of fiber (with the skin on) and potassium.0 -

Why?0 -
I stay away from pasta, breads, etc. I do eat beans, fruits and veggies.0

Some carbs are necessary for body function. Skip refined/simple carbs and stick with complex carbs like brown rice, veggies, lentils, whole grains etc. Do NOT cut carbs out completely or you will suffer from health problems later on.0

Oh! you mean only the high glycemic carbs. Yes, by all means, cut back on those. If you really want to go bonkers, try the Paleo eating plan. It eliminates all grains and most fruits, too. People have seen a great deal of success with the Paleo plan.0 -
Do you plan on never eating those types of carbs ever again? If not, then it might be more effective in the long run to simply learn how to eat potatoes, etc in moderation than completely cutting them out of your diet. *shrug* But to each their own.0

Exactly, just simple or complex. Simple break down quickly into glucose which your body uses what it can and stores the rest. Complex carbs break down slower allowing the body to use more of them instead of just storing the excess.0 -
If you are to just cut back on carbs, try eating one meal without any carbs at all. Its working for me I've been working with a dietian, that comes free with a lot of health care plans, and I dont even miss eating bread with every meal or pasta everynight.0
-
No just , just consume complex carbs, oatmeal, brown rice, quinoa, sweet potatoes... All the other stuff you should ditch forever.. eat your healthy carbs at breakfast, snack, lunch, I do not eat anything but veggie and nut/protein carbs for dinner.0
-
You kind of need carbs, although it is okay to go low carb, meaning you get them from green veggies and other more healthier sources. I'm doing keto and I try to keep my net carbs under 30, under 25 if I can help it.0

Great to hear you are just eliminating bad carbs. Good carbs (fruits, vegetables beans) are good for you and needed by the body. Wishing you the best.0

dont do it captain!0

If you cut them down to the point of going into ketosis there can be a rough week or two where your body adjusts. You might want to read up on that, especially if you start feeling fatigued, get headaches (hint: drink lots of water if this happens), or have any other odd symptoms.
I go in and out of ketosis quite easily now however, with few or no symptoms.0 -

We call that cognitive dissonance0 -
Did you get all your protein for the day? Enough micronutrients? And enough fats?
Then eat whatever you want for the rest of your calories.
And btw there are three ESSENTIAL macronutrients. Fats, protein, and ice cream.0 -
My cardiologist has me on a diet that will only allow 20g of carbohydrates. It's perfectly acceptable. I'd recommend investigating South Beach or finding a copy of "The New Atkins for the New You" to learn more about how that type of diet works. Whatever you do, though, you have to make some of those changes permanent (which is why it's good to look at the books - they teach you how to transition to the healthiest eating plan for life).
Good luck!0 -
Just got to tell you that it is scientifically proven that carbs are part of the human diet. Carbs give us energy. There are a mimimum amount of carbs needed daily to maintain health. There is no point in being skinny and ill. Without carbs you will eventually die so keep on with the vegetables if you want to stay well.
So that being said there are good and bad carbs. Good ones are the starches like potatoes and rice. Bad ones are things like processed sugars, white breads shortenings and trans fats etc - in other words junk foods.
If you are going to skip carbs and go into ketosis to lose weight - when you do you will actually be ill
Just stick to the approved amounts of good carbs and be careful that you do not overdose on protein. Doctor Robert Atkins dide because he slipped on his steps going into his office. But when they did the autopsy they discovered - guess what? heart disease. It is quite difficult to come back from heart disease. Try looking up J McDougall MD of Santa Rosa (on line) for the proof
It is up to you - but you did ask0 -
I have done the low/no carb diet and was VERY successful. After a while I just felt like crap all the time. Now days I simply eat anything I want and keep my calories below maintenance if I want to lose. I think I am doing C/P/F of 40/20/40 which seems to work for me on days that I hit them. I'm just more of a moderation guy these days. I get broccoli instead of cheese fries when I go out and just make the best semi-healthy decisions I can.0

it's fine, but why would you want to? They're tastey and filling all at the same time.0
