It doesn't affect me at all. Except that is p*sses me off that we have a bunch of idiots in Congress with the schoolyard attitude that makes them want to disagree with each other over every thing.

Yes I agree and in my PERSONAL opinion, they should all be impeached starting at the top. But let's not get into that.

    For doing their job?

Congressmen are supposed to represent the people that elected them. If they ran and won on a platform that says their constituents want them to represent their issues and it results in a standoff, then they are doing their job. If they are being told in letters and phone calls by their constituents that they need to stand their ground, then they need to do that.

It's not like the senate where they aren't necessarily there to listen to the voice of the people as much as represent what is best for the country as a whole.

I think the problem comes from the great schism in the general population that allows these clowns to get elected to congress in the first place. Rural vs. urban, and conservative vs. liberal see things too diametriccally opposed for the House to get anything done.

My first time home buyer loan is being delayed. Very frustrating.

This is something I can sympathize with being a recent first time homebuyer. I'm sorry. =/

Luckily I'm a first time buyer with a conventional loan that was approved the day prior to the shut down.

It hasn't affected me one iota.

This is not the first time, nor the second nor the fifth. Most of this (not all, granted) is media hype.

Good friend is on furlough from work. As he says, "It's like a snow day, but instead of snow, it's bulls&*@."

I work in medical research and the sequester's hit us pretty hard. NIH has had to be much more restrictive with grant money- we've already lost a few people as a result. I'm hoping the sequester gets pushed back pretty soon so I can keep my job. However, I'm not a parent dependent on WIC to feed my kids, so I'm one of the very lucky ones.

For me, although I am not currently being furloughed, I am still paying the price. I am having to basically work for free until after the budget is signed and then they are supposed to back pay us... Sure hope so, but on top of that, I lost someone very near and dear to me this week and in order for me to go to their funeral tomorrow, I will be forced to take "leave without pay" even though I have plenty of leave on the books to cover and I will NOT be reimbursed for that. Obviously with not getting paid but having to work none-the-less, my family is paying the price as well both financially and emotionally.

How are you directly affected by the shutdown?

If you haven't seen this, it might help to cheer you up. I really feel for anyone in the military who is getting scr#wed by this... But, as a Canadian, it's not affecting me specifically, and for that, I'm thankful. I dunno if it might affect border crossings?

I can finally afford decent insurance thank God!

/highfive!! I have a chronic medical condition (kidney transplant), and come January I won't be able to be refused coverage because of it!! AWESOME. And great for taxpayers too, because if an insurer refuses to help me pay for my $2500 a month medicine, then I (a) lose my kidney, (b) become substantially less able to work and support myself, and (c) go back on Medicare-funded dialysis, which costs $75,000 a month. Or (d) die.

It really is not media hype. Actually the problem is the media has no real idea what is going on. They have no idea what many of us do, and they have no idea what the long term effect of this will be. Quit frankly, you may never notice anything in your life. But then again you might and not even now why it did happen. The media is either highly misinformed or purposely misleading on what is really happening here.

To be a shutdown, wouldn't they actually have to "shut down"?

Hmmm....let's see. Being a slimy government parasite, who lives high on the hog, this furlough is really going to crimp my upscale style. You know, feeding my kids and paying my mortgage, so the asshats in Congress can bicker and pass the buck. Oh, yeah, almost forgot, as a Reservist I won't be able to drill this weekend, which knocks out my only OTHER source of income. But that's ok....who needs money anyway??? :grumble: :noway:

I'm having to tell a lot of mothers with hungry babies to go to the food banks for baby formula because we can't help them with WIC. This blows hairy monkey balls.

OOOO this makes me so mad WIC is defunded but the two agencies NSA and TSA which are an abomination of our constitutional rights are still up and running. And to add to my anger sweden gets a year off for maternity and we get jack squat wholly hell stupid country.

I know it is already putting a damper on the local businesses here as well because people cannot afford to go out to eat, or buy things that are not 100% necessity, especially when we have no idea how long this BS is going to drag out. I am not for either side specifically, I just want them to come up with something that is the best for the American people. You would think that is not asking too much!

Disagree. Their job is to come to a compromise and find a solution. Deciding to throw a fit and not work while still getting paid does not equate to "doing their job".

Edit to say: It hasn't affected our family yet, but as my husband is a veteran with disabilities, we are watching our funds closely and hope we won't have to dip into savings because of this nonsense.
