Calorie Calculating for Nursing Moms

Does anyone out there know how to accurately determine your daily calorie allotment if you're nursing. I know you're supposed to eat a few more each day but I'm not sure how many. Any ideas would be appreciated!

I have been trying to figure this out myself. After reading A LOT of internet articles I believe the estimate is 1500-1800 approximately. So, that is a range with room for flexibility. I think you should feel it out for yourself depending on how your milk supply is doing and how your baby is nursing. Also, consider how long you have been nursing: a few weeks? Might want to aim for the high end of that scale. Coming up on a year+? You could probably taper off to a more standard 1500 or less caloric intake. Again, the first priority is maintain your milk supply! Start slow with diet and exercise and as long as your baby is happy and being fed keep doing what you're doing! I am trying not to be to hard on myself until I am done nursing because I know the baby is priority! He is 8 months old for reference. Good luck!0
