    9/2 - 12*

    Total: 12 miles

    *fixed gear rides

I did a quick ride so I could get home and watch the first game of the Buffalo Sabres NHL season. So far, not good- losing 2-0 after the first period. But still, the weather for the ride was superb and I did a sporty 14.9 mph average on my fixed gear.

    It's October already? :noway:
Let me review. I did 294/310 in July, 311/310 in August and 324/240 September.
I completed challenge easily mostly because the weather on weekends were so good, and riding with friends was so much fun.

I'll try 240 miles again, but it's going to be difficult as I play a lot of tennis, and hate riding in cold weather.

I'm really new to cycling, i can't even let go of the handle bars whilst moving yet :) My plan is to get out for at least an hour on my bike every weekend for the next month. Its a small goal i know compared to many but its achievable, well i hope so. I'll keep you posted with how far i actually go, i've not managed more than 5 miles yet.
Any goal is a good goal :glasses:

Well after almost 1,000 miles it was bound to happen. Got to work fine this AM, was about to leave for my lunch ride home and whaddayaknow, a very soft rear tire. But I don't have a kit. Anyone ever purchased one from walmart/target before? Any kit suggestions is greatly appreciated.

I MUST get this fixed to night,
Bummer - you sorted now? I've got kit but at home, which doesnt help when i'm out on my bike! I'm going to get caught out sometime soon and it'll be dark. And raining.

Well Walmart didnt have any patch kits, only these self adhesive things called Skabs. So I found the pinhole leak in the tube and used some contact cement and a skab to patch up. I rode to work this AM so it seems to be holding up ok.

    10/01 - 06.25 @ 15.8 mph (AM)
    10/01 - 10.01 @ 15.8 mph (Noon)
    10/02 - 06.17 @ 16.9 mph (AM)
    10/03 - 06.20 @ 16.1 mph (AM)

    MTD - 28.63

Anyone have any recommendations for buying tires/tubes online? I'd really like to go with a smooth street tire on my 29er rather than the knobbys, which are pretty work at this point.

these are one of most puncture proof tyres you can purchase

I've been using them for 14 months and have not had a puncture

I had those, and surprisingly I did get a puncture. Nothing is flatproof. Right now I'm running these: http://www.amazon.com/Panaracer-RiBMo-Tire-Wire-1-25-Inch/dp/B003L9D9WS/ref=sr_1_2?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1380821208&sr=1-2&keywords=ribmo

I've had them a while (almost 2 years) and so far, no flats. I ride a lot of urban riding with a fair amount of glass and stuff.

I really need to sort myself out and get back on the bike properly, less than 500 miles last month and a slow start to this month but I have had a few health problems that in truth gave me a excuse not to ride, got a few tidy rides planned for the weekend so hopefully I will get back into the swing of things again

Tonight's ride was a bike date with my wife. It was her first ride in a couple weeks, and 12 miles was probably more than we should have attempted. But dinner was delicious and we made it home in one piece, so it was a good night.

    'Hello fellow cyclists :-)
Last month I hit 460 miles. I want to do at least 500 this month, preferably more.

Most of my weekday miles are commuter miles (I filled up my gas tank 6 weeks ago and it's still 3/4 full!). My weekend mileage is a combination of commuter miles and longer rides. '

Very nice story about saving fuel made me laugh that your gas\petrol tank is still full

In the UK we have a lot more people cycling now we also have the National Cycle Network which is a series of safe, traffic-free lanes and quiet on-road routes that connect to every major city and passes within a mile of 55 per cent of UK homes. It now stretches 14,000 miles across the length and breadth of the British Isles.

'Sustrans developed the concept and coordinates the development of the National Cycle Network, working with Local Governments to identify future routes
    http://www.sustrans.org.uk/ncn/map/national-cycle-network/about

Here are some photos showing the routes and the signage on routes

First you need a map (though you don't have to buy one as all the routes are well sign posted

    NNP04_Celtic_trail_pack-M.jpg

On this map below we have routes, 77,754,1, 75 etc

    F__C_location_map-M.jpg

    sustrans_gb_cycle_pic-M.jpg

then just follow the signs :) which will have a corresponding route number
