Oh! Please, please can I join in??

I'm working 2 jobs at the moment but next Wednesday is the last day of one of them so I have time in daytime.

I love cycling but lately didn't have much time for it.
This group is a blessing and I will def be good competitor

P.S I pledge 100 miles anything extra will be a bonus :smooched:

I'm really new to cycling, i can't even let go of the handle bars whilst moving yet :) My plan is to get out for at least an hour on my bike every weekend for the next month. Its a small goal i know compared to many but its achievable, well i hope so. I'll keep you posted with how far i actually go, i've not managed more than 5 miles yet.
A goal, no matter how small, is a goal. Hope you achieve it!

Hi Everyone. I am just starting out. I took delivery of a beautiful Diamondback commuter bike yesterday. I'm not in the best of shape so I'm starting slow. We have a lovely 21 mile greenbelt here in Harrisburg and my goal is to ride the whole thing on the 31st so I'm trying to work up to be able to cycle for 20 miles continuously. I just started yesterday:
    10/3: 4 miles
    10/4 7 miles

I have not ridden a bike in a VERY long time so my butt is so tender right now.. I feel like the saddle is made out of 1,000 bees! My legs would like to ride a little longer but I had to knock off after 7 miles and put my backside in the freezer! Until my butt gets broken in, I don't see myself cycling for more than 10 miles on any given day!

Invest in a pair of padded cycling shorts, they will make the world of difference :noway:

Anyone have any recommendations for buying tires/tubes online? I'd really like to go with a smooth street tire on my 29er rather than the knobbys, which are pretty work at this point.

I am quite happy with my Continental Ultra Gatorskin tires. Over 1,000 miles without a flat on some very rough, untended roads. They are a huge PITA to take on and off, but other than that, worth every penny.

What a beautiful place to ride. In Connecticut we have the "Rails to Trails" routes which are old rail beds converted to biking/pedestrian paths and the Farmington Canal Line trail which runs alongside the old canal network. I love riding those trails because they are picturesque and traffic free. Crowded sometimes though....

Well, I am a little intimidated to be adding a post, since I won't be going anywhere near as many miles as most of you! I have just started biking again; it's my favorite exercise, but I'm really a newbie at it. I have a 20-year old very heavy mountain bike and no access to indoor biking or spin classes. My goal for the month is to get out at least once a week for at least 10 miles each time. The challenge is that I'm afraid of car traffic (New Jersey drivers don't even seem to see bikers and pedestrians!), so I have to figure out some manageable routes for days when I can't get a lift to a bike path or park!

Today I biked 12 miles on the Delaware-Raritan Canal towpath and on some side trails (lots of tree roots!). I had a time constraint or I would have gone longer since it's so uplifting.

Its great to see another cyclist-if you can post some photos of the canal towpath it would be great to see them
