I just started reading "New Rules of Lifting for Women" and I would like to get some free weights for home use. I don't really know where to begin.
Any suggestions?

No, I mean what weight to start with. As much as I can lift? Should I be able to do a certain amount of reps with it straight away? A friend recommended a kettle ball, but I don't really know what to use that for.0
