How much do you spend on food per week?

between the 3 of us we spend about £300 per month on food (300GBP). this included a fair amount of organic stuff. And its mostly ingredients with little in the way of processed foods. We buy mostly in local specialist stores rather than big supermarkets, and don't eat much meat. How does this compare internationally? And with other Brits?
I'm curious, and am always conscious of into whose pockets our money goes.

$80 USD a week, I shop more frequently now than I did before. I used to buy enough to last a month, but that instant access to endless food in the house led to temptation (mostly late at night). (shrug) makes me walk more now too.0

hey there and greetings from Ireland £75 a week sounds ok to be honest because food definitely cheaper in uk than ireland. We are five at home and spend about €200 a week on food. I see you have a child too so its really only 2 and a half people . Mind you we do a weekly shop in a Tesco so not much by way of speciality foods at all and we do have meat every day.0

$70 Australian... Usually it is just fruit and veg, cheese, milk, ham and turkey. Then once a month I do a big shop $80 for meats that I can freeze0

I shop once every two weeks, spend about $120 U.S. Dollars, so $60 a week. I don't buy anything perishable for the most part, with the exception of whole wheat bread, whole wheat bagels, and some fat free cream cheese. Everything else is old-fashioned oats, whey protein, and fish oil/flaxseed.0

I spend any where from $50-70 (US) a week. Depending on what's on sale. Most of it is for perishables. I work in a grocery/superstore. So I usually break up my shopping and only by enough perishables to last 2-3 days. Part of my budget covers other things like cat food and food that my husband can make. He really hasn't learned to cook yet.0

$80/week Canadian. I make a meal plan every Saturday and based on that, buy my groceries. Sometimes I go over, sometimes I'm under but I budget for $80/week because produce costs an arm and a leg here.0

Hiya, I spend on average about £25-£30 a week on food, excluding Starbucks and the odd treat from Pret A Manger. I shop for myself and go to Sainsburys. I personally think £25-£30 is a bit pricey for one person but I tend to buy a lot of meat, salmon and fruit which is pricey in London. I live with my boyfriend but as we eat such different food (i.e. he eats unhealthily!) we do our shopping separately, which completely baffles my mother!0

300 GBP divided between 2 and a half of us works out as
GBP 30
EURO 32
US Dollars 40
Yen 3700
Australian Dollars 46
New Zealand Dollars 60
South African Rand 310
Swiss Francs 43
Canadian Dollars 46
(That's enough Rates ed.)
per adult per week0 -
I spend about 120 USD a wk, but thats for two of us. We buy lots of meat, which is pricey0

About $150 USD a week for two of us0

These days, I mostly get my stuff from a supermarket, prepackaged (though mostly healthy stuff).
I think I probably spend around £75 (GBP) per week including a friday takeaway curry.
I'm probably paying at least a 2x convenience premium
This doesn't include beer. Double it for that unless I'm having a dry period.0 -
About 120 us dollars a week.0
-
About $200-$250 US a month.0

I budget myself £200 per month (£50 per week) for two of us.
I try to make as many meals from scratch as I can and try not to buy things we don't need. It helps save our money and stop us snacking!0 -
For me, my husband and our 2 kids, we spend about £60 a fortnight and then we get fresh bits as we need them which is probably about £40 so about £50 a week for 4 of us.0
-
For my husband and I, $100 a week, which includes trips for kitty litter, house stuff, and the cosmetics.0
-
£30 - £40 for two adults and two children (half the week) x0
-
about $50 a week for just myself.0
-
OK, I am almost embarassed to say this but will qualify it with we eat really healthy and never do takeaway, including lunches.
Family of 4 about $600AUD per week.

I spend about 30-50 every 1-2 weeks then about 50 4-6 weeky on meat at costco... Far too much for I person maybe!! I never buy out tho...0

£60 on a big shop once a month for tins and water, meat, milk, bread etc. for the freezer, then £10 a week on fresh fruit and veg - so comes in at about £100 a month. I never run out of food, that's for sure!!0
-
Two of us here, 40-50 USD per week on perishables, and 100 every other week for meats and breads to put in the freezer. Depends on what's on sale and how great a sale it is.0
-
About $100-$200 per week for 3 of us (or 2 1\2), We tend to stock up if its on sale, so it varies if we need to re-stock that week or not lol0

Interesting straw poll this. Interesting to see we seem to be in the middle internationally, and there doesn't seem to be a big variation between countries.
And lots of people think they spend more than they'd like.
I think the biggest variation comes from WHAT people are buying, rather than where they live or shop.
Which means we can be more in control of our spending buy controlling what we eat, rather than where we buy it.
Not what the advertising industry would have you believe, who want you to buy the same bloody stuff from outlet A rather than B.
The more people who post here, the more statistically significant the results may become.
So thanks for all your replies, and please encourage more people to post their data here for me and others to ponder over.
Cheerio

We (3) get about $250 in groceries over the course of the month, not including eating out. So probably $75-100 a week all together.0
-
$560-600 a month. My morning protein shake cost me roughly 6 bucks alone. 4-5 chicken breasts at 1.50 a pop. My daily cost is about 17-18 bucks.0

We spend about $50 twice a month to stock up on bulk goods, frozen veg, and soymilk for the two of us. On Sundays we spend about $20 at the farmers market on fresh fruits, veg, and free range eggs. We don't buy a lot of meat, but when we do it really spikes up the bill!

How do you afford a fridge to put that in?!?!?!0 -
Holy crap.. I regularly spend $20 a week or LESS for myself, and that includes meat/cheese/bread in addition to beans, rice, fruit and veg. I ended up under budget this week and managed to buy myself some treat-y sweet potato fries.
I can't imagine spending that much on food.. even when I wasn't eating clean I didn't really get about $30 or $35. I wonder if there's something I'm forgetting to eat haha0 -
I usually get about 90 to 100 (Canadian) dollars a month for a big grocery order, then weekly stock up at about 15 to 20, depends on what i need. Usually it is a loaf of bread, a tub of yogurt and some veggies or fruit. Staples are expensive here, so I usually try to stock up when things are on sale. Last week bread and hamburger were on buy one get one, so i bought 6 loaves and 2 family packs or burger, divinding it up and throwing it all in the freezer. So i will be good for a couple months on that stuff. The next month and a half should be a bit cheaper. All i need this week is Peanut butter, which is about 4 dollars for a small jar.
I am feeding only me, i buy my lunch once a week at work, trying not to go over 6 or 7 dollars, and on the weekends i almost always have company.0
