Biggest thing is actually seeing the amount of calories you're eating on the screen. If you have an iPod touch, iPhone, or Android, download the app. It's great because it allows you to enter calories on the go and look up what something at a restaurant will have.
Aside from that, common sense is your best friend. I ask myself if what I am about to order/eat is something that will help me reach my goal. If it's even a questionable item, I make another choice. Before you know it, this becomes habit and you don't even consider questionable items.
Friend me if you want, I could use encouragement as well!0 -
I started by just logging everything I normally ate. It helped me to see where I was starting from.
All I can tell you is what is working for me. I look at from the point of view that I want to eat healthy and the rest will take care of itself. I will NEVER be on a diet again. I eat what I want to within the limits of the calories I need to achieve my goals. The thing is my choices have gotten much better because I don't like to be hungry and if you eat the right things that aren't so calorie laden, you can eat a lot more. As I started losing and feeling better I added exercise more and more and I enjoy it again. I used to love exercise but as I got older and heavier - not so much.
I have a ways to go still but I have, for the most part, lost my desire for what I consider "bad" food; which for me are sugar and white flour. That is such a relief not to be nagged by my head, not my stomach, to eat.
Take baby steps. Maybe add one good food a day, walk a few steps more, drink a little more water (that's very important), eat one less "bad" thing - whatever that is for you.
Not to write a book here, I guess the most important thing for me was to not approach this whole thing as a diet; something that would end. The way I exercise and eat now will never end. I can always have cake, or chips or anything I want if I balance it. Thing is I no longer want my "trigger" foods nearly as much now.
If you want this, you can have it!
