What do you spend your money on?

When you find yourself with a bit of extra money what do you do with it?

Personally I spend any extra funds on new collectibles, books and comics.

I also tend to spend a disgusting amount of money on my hair.

What about you?

extra money? what's that? If we had it, it'd either go on bills or food. Then clothes. Then kids.
  • the kiddo, clothes, entertainment - in that order!

Vacations! This year I went to Texas (to visit family and friends), Pennsylvania (to visit family), Niagara Falls, New York City, Chincoteague Island, and I will be going to India in a couple of months!

But above all -- I try to save a good portion of my money because I plan to be buying a house in the next couple of years. :)

There's a wonderful cupcake shop, Coco Cupcakes, about 1 km from my house. Delicious! Also, cheap games from GOG and/or Steam to help me forget how pathetic my life is.

The only time I can bring myself to save money is if it is for a vacation. I'm awful at saving

I agree! Saving can be difficult but vacations make it totally worth it.

I actually created an excel that tracks all of my monthly spending (by categories) and I can easily see how much I spend on average in a particular area (like gas, food, clothes, pets, etc). It really helps me decrease some categories and I have been able to save a ton of money since I started monitoring!

Lately I've been spending a bit of my extra money on building up my own home "gym" (i.e. weights, bench, etc.)

Also bought a kitten last week, so...toys for him.

Usually, I save for vacations. I went to Thailand/Cambodia/Vietnam in July-August. I'm looking to maybe adding China to the itinerary for next summer.

    I should really do that.

My husband and I live off of one income, and we save 25% of it. With the rest, it covers rent, car payment, groceries, a small fun/restaurant budget. Outside of that we don't really buy anything. In fact, I'm a little envious - I tend to get a haircut about once every 6 months. I really want to go get something funky done, and maybe a bright crazy color, but I can't stand to think of spending so much money on it.

My colour is actually the cheapest part, if you want to try an out there colour try the Special Effects or Directions home dyes. They're brilliant
  • If we actually get some extra money it goes to buying clothes.

If I could buy anything it'd be a spa visit.

I try to pay down bills and buy stuff for my son. My boyfriend likes to put a little extra in the stock market...which I don't understand. :/ I'd rather buy a home honestly!

Do you understand the power of compounding interest? Investing in the stock market doesn't mean you're not saving for a home.

After my mortgage, car payment, other boring adult bills are paid, and some money is put into savings...I buy nail polish. Lots of nail polish! And get massages.

I have several investments and at some point they could buy me a home, or at least a large chunk for a down payment. Though in all honesty I'm thinking it may be a good idea to keep it for retirement with the way social security is looking these days.

If you want my unasked for opinion, keep the money invested and start saving for a healthy down payment, especially if you don't already have a separate retirement fund.
