Getting to fit and trim and staying there....help requested!

Hello....

Wanted to know from those who have their diets 'in check' 85 - 90% of the time......What is the conversation that you have with yourself that keeps you on track? What are you telling yourself that keeps you from straying on a consistent basis.

Me: I exercise a lot and feel that "I'm good" there. But I feel like I slip more often then not on the diet aspect.

Please share and thanks in advance!

Debbie

I'm vain. That's really what it comes down to. I want to look good in my clothes, I want to look good naked, I want to feel good about the way I look.... and I'm willing to forego that slice of cake, or that extra serving of dinner... or swap that glass of wine for a vodka soda, in order to look the way I want to.

I don't beat myself up when I slip. I try my best to take it one day at a time and eat well and move my body. I keep it simple.

I don't want to "start over" ever again. And it's been over two years since the last time I told myself that, and I haven't had a start over since. There's no end date, no temporary diet or calorie restriction - I've learned how to eat, how many calories to eat, developed the healthy eating and exercise habits. I even take a full week off from all exercise every couple of months or so, with no fear of derailing or losing my groove.

A big part of it has been learning my BMR and TDEE - I know my upper and lower limits, which has been very freeing in being able to enjoy holidays, birthdays, vacation, or just a splurge on a regular basis. This thread has been a huge help in this aspect: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/974888-in-place-of-a-road-map-2k13

Eat well (the RIGHT amount of calories - food is fuel!!), drink water, exercise, take rest days, get good sleep, repeat. And have patience. Be in it for life! :drinker:

It's just the way I live now. I've been maintaining (with small fluctuations) for over a year.

I hear you - I don't want to ever start over either. I've come too far for that. You have been helpful and thank you for the link :-)

It was a lot of work to get this far. I don't want to have to do it again. That's what keeps me in check.

Ditto. It's the way I live. Been maintaining (with small fluctuations) for over a decade now.
