New here - any recommendations for postmenopausal success?

Hey all,

I am new and wondered if any of you have had success as a post-menopausal woman? I am about 60 lbs. overweight and have definitely gained more around the middle than in the past. Do you feel there are any eating plans that are more successful than others for women losing weight at this stage in life?

Thanks for your input!

I have just started menopause (at least I think I have), but I have found this site works very well for us ladies that are a little older.

I'm nearly 3 years into the menopause and yes it is harder but not impossible. I'm on 1200 calories a day try and workout every day even just walking for over an hour. I never eat any exercise calories back. I have had weeks where it's been harder but it works for me. Add me as a friend if you like ????

I too follow MFP's suggested 1200 calories, and I don't work out much - just walk my dog several times a week, and try to get a short walk in during my lunch break at work. I usually eat back at least some of my exercise calories, and since starting in June have lost 32 lbs. I know I'll need to step up the exercise now that my weight loss has slowed (possibly plateaued) and I'm considering joining a gym for the winter.

Check out the "Over 50 Ladies" group here for support and friendship.

I've been post-menopausal for almost two years and am just a few pounds away from goal. What's worked for me has been:

    1. Taking it slow -- I set my goal at a half-pound loss per week. My average has actually been a bit more than that, though the closer I get to goal, the slower it comes off.

    2. Ditching most processed foods and relying much more on fresh produce.

    3. Regular exercise.
