Feeling v cross!

I'm fat. And I don't want to be!
So I've been counting calories and trying to eat right and gently increase my exercise. I started on July 19th this yr and so far I've lost 35lb. That's 2 and a half stone.
Over the past week I've started doing 30 Day Shred and I'm feeling good.
I've been wearing old jogging bottom and a vest but they are baggy now and the trousers fall down as I jump around.
So today I decided to treat myself to decent sports clothes.  I went to every sports shop in the world (that's how it feels) and NONE of them sell my size (I'm prob a uk 18 now)
So despite what I thought was a good loss so far - approximately a third of the way to my goal, I still haven't done enough.
According to sports clothing sizes I need to be thin in order to get thin.
I'm so cross and disheartened!!!!
I'm fat and I don't want to be!

It is so annoying when health and fitness stores only cater to those that are already healthy and fit.

Have you considered blokes joggers, they would be in a larger size and you might get a pair that fit your legs too as at 5ft9 I'll bet most trousers come up short on you. I know I have problems and I'm only 5ft7 but have a 33 inside leg.

How about leggings, I know they do those in larger sizes...the sights on the streets of the west midlands this summer proves that.

H and M do jogging bottoms and other such stuff which is where I often get stuff. A Large would prob fit fine (they do xl too though)

Sportswear clothing manufacturers are evil, I've been having a similar grumble!! After plenty of exercise and dieting I have got down to a UK size 10, occasionally an 8 in trousers if they come up big. However in major sportswear brands fitted lycra leggings/shorts I am still wearing a size 12/14, which they call LARGE. Grrrrrr amd they're still tight enough to cut in on my waist slightly, creating that oh so attractive roll. In the UK Next do quite a good womens sportswear range up to a size 22, available on their website, I haven't actually tried anything from the range so can't comment whether their sportswear comes up true to size, but their other clothes are usually great fitting.

Good luck with your weight loss and exercise, don't let this put you off, you are doing really well!

I so agree with you! It's bad enough they all stare when you go in the store, then you slowly walk the entire store and nothing with the larger sizes.

Have you tried online? Woman Within has work out clothes.

Just discovered that Next online do addidas bottoms up to a size 18 too. So it must be the sports shops themselves that are not stocking larger sizes rather than the manufacturers not making them. I still think that most sportswear comes up small for size though.

THe other girls beat me to it but next and m&S so decent sizes. I favour the m&S clothes as they tend to have a higher waist and when i run they dont fall down, the fancy labels sit on the hips and just fall off me!
Congrats on the loss so far

Do you have a Decathalon near you? I started at a Size 18 (they were tight on me) and could find loose gym bottoms, tight running bottoms, swimsuits etc in my size there. And they aren't that expensive so as you lose more weight they are cheap enough to replace :) x

I had the same experience as you a couple of weekends ago, so resorted to buying online.

Obviously a gender difference here but I bought some Nike trousers online in XL (I'm a 42" waist, 33" inside leg, so not exactly slim!). This is the largest they had.

Don't be disheartened and congrats on your weight loss so far!

Me too. I'm a UK 16 and it is pretty much the only place I can go, because I am really short as well! They are quite cheap too, which is a bonus as I am determined not to need my gym wear in that size for very long

Thanks guys. You've all been really helpful.
The thing that annoys me more than anything is that specialist sports shops do NOT cater for larger people. It's great that someone doe (hurrah for M&S) but in terms if encouraging people to get fitter the sports shops ate seriously lacking. I felt like demanding to speak to the owner if each shop (I didn't and I don't imagine the owner of a multinational company was about on a Sunday anyway).
Neither M&S or Debenhams had sports stuff in and the other shops that do sell my size are all full of winter coats and wooly scarves. Winter is not the tine to be trying to buy shorts. I managed to get sone stuff in the sale to keep me going for a short while. Hopefully I'll need a smaller size soon anyway.
Again, thank you all of you. I shall look online in future x

I hear you, try finding bicycling clothes as a plus size woman. You can get them in men's sizes but if they are plus for a woman they cost a arm and a leg. And they aren't cheap to start with. Anyway, Junonia also has plus size exercise clothes, expensive but they do have some good sales. And why we are at it? Why are men's workout clothes so much cheaper?

You've done so well! Don't be down on yourself, and most of all don't give up!!!!! Try going to a discount store and just buying some sweatpants. I wish there was something I could do... I'm in the US and you can buy workout clothes in all sizes here, probably because 2/3 of Americans are overweight. Don't worry about it... just stay on track, and eventually you'll be able to buy those cute workout clothes. In the meantime, keep your chin up! You've got our support!

Sports shops here in the UK aren't sports shops, they're fashion outlets. Most of the staff don't have a clue about the stuff they're selling and God-forbid you go in there wanting trainers for actual running rather than with jeans! (with the exception of Decathlon who are great but our nearest is in Merry Hill, which as someone who hates shopping is Hell!)
Matalan have some decent stuff in a range of sizes, no 'labels' but it does the trick, and even better they're usually on a retail park so you can just drive up then go (I really really don't liek shopping, in case that isn't obvious!)

You are doing great hun - don't give up! I got mine from Next - they were a bit more pricey, but I got an 18 L in there and they are nice quality too.
