Soda, pop, or coke

I like to think I've escaped the Southern way of calling it Coke, but the a few weeks ago I discovered it is in my blood. Typically I call it soda, but I asked for a Coke (in the North) and she asked me if Pepsi was ok and I said, no I wanted a Sprite. My husband was shocked -- I was shocked when I realized what I did haha.0

I go against what is prevalent in this area, and I say "soda"
How dare you use data to prove me right?0 -
Pepsi first. Then Coke if they don't have any.
Yeah no. I know you're not from the south because we just don't drink Pepsi down here unless we have to. Now Mtn Dew is a different story.
Eww. Pepsi. Blech. Why would you drink Pepsi if Coke was available? Why would you choose Pepsi first? Lol.0 -
Its all the same!! No good for you drinks! :P Stick to water!

So you are one of those people that calls everything a "Coke", eh?
Typical.0 -
I grew up in the upper Midwest calling it pop.
When I moved to the South, I was totally confused when people would ask for Dr Pepper Coke or Sprite Coke or some such nonsense, but they looked at me pretty funny when I called it pop.
So I just call it soda now.0 -
We call it soft drink. Or fizzy.
Id be confused if you asked for coke and actually meant sprite, or fanta etc0 -
i only drink thea, coffee, water and sirup added with water so would not know
I just drink straight syrup. With pancake ice cubes.0 -
I always used to say pop - and then in college my roommate despised the word pop in reference to soda. So I started saying soda... kind of stuck.0

On the West Coast we say soda.
The East Coast generally refer to it as pop.
Calling it Coke is just branding. Like Q-Tips, Kleenex, and other non-sense.
Actually on the East coast we say "Soda".
"Pop" is more of a rust-belt/midestern thing (also having lived there)
Hearing someone call all soda "Coke" would make me want to punch a baby seal.

coke or pepsi... what ever it is I'm wanting at the moment... I use the actual names.... if I am referring to just a carbonated beverage in general i use " Soda"0

Depends on the day. I use all three.0

That wasn't the question. COKE for you!0 -
In Asia its usually called "Cold drink".
In most of Middle East you can say "Pepsi" to make it work too. Not a lot of coca-cola drinkers here.0 -

I grew up calling all carbonated, sweetened beverages "cokes." Now I mostly use the word "soda" or just "dDP" because Diet Dr. Pepper is the only kind I drink anymore.0

Grew up in CA...calling it soda.0
-
Pop in Chicago :bigsmile:0
-
Im from Liverpool and we say whatever drink we want. So "coke, Fanta, sprite" etc
Generic term is fizzy drink.
I worked in Chester though and when someone said "pop" I was so confused. Pop, to me, is lemonade (although I would still never say pop, id say lemo)0 -
Pop here in Canada0
-
When I am home in CA, it is soda. When I am back in CO, where I am originally from, it is pop. When I go visit my Dad's fam in NoDak, it is Coke regardless of what brand it is....so I am all confused, lol! Either way....I am trying not to drink as much of it as I used to.0
-
I used to call it Coke (no matter what kind) and I live in Kentucky.
Now I call it pop or soda...just depends on the mood I'm in.0 -
In Ohio, we say POP. My daughter now lives on the East Coast (just outside Manhattan) and they all say SODA. She's been there for four years now... took her a while to get used to saying soda instead of pop - lol :drinker:0
-
I've always said pop, I haven't heard it differently to the places I've been in Canada unless they were a tourist, but I haven't been that many places, could be different in certain areas.0
-
Always soda.
In my area it is "pop" though. People assume I am not from my area for this and many other reasons.0
