So this week I decided I needed to get better about measuring things, even though I felt like I was good at eyeballing stuff, some of which I was but there are a few things I was way off on. The main thing being hummus, 2 tablespoons isn't as much as I thought it was.
My question for you: which food items have you thought you were good at eyeballing until you actually measured them out?

I'd say salad dressing, but I always either make my own or get very low calorie dressing.
...and I'm not *that* far off. I don't like it soaked and I try to match the packets of dressing you get at fast food.0

pretty much everything! I've started eating things in my measuring cups. Dual purpose, now I know I've measured correctly, and won't dirty a bowl! :-)0

 Haha! Great plan
Also, peanut butter. Same as hummus... 2 TBSP is not as much as you think (or would like).0

Wine. It turns out that I was pouring out about 3 to 4 oz. instead of 5.0

Peanut butter, rice, WINE and popcorn.0

Nuts, rice, and fish. The first one is way less that I would have thought and the second and third were actually much larger helpings than I assumed (based on similar portion sizes of red meat and pasta).0

4 oz of wine is a sad, sad thing. 8 oz is only slightly better.0

Love this. Need to start doing this.0

Cereal. So now I just buy weetabix. It's really low in sugar, and it saves measuring.0

I measure everything with significant calories....I eyeball things with minimun calories....
Eyeball....lettuce, raw spinach, arugula, shreadded carrots, black coffee, water. jarred spices added to cooking
 I measure
oil, salad dressing, recipe quantities (other than spices), etc.0

If you're eating out of measuring cups, you're doing it wrong. They can be up to 30% inaccurate.
I never use measuring cups. I weigh everything. And even after 9 months of that, I still fail at eyeballing most of the time.0

Best post of the day! Reminds of my bachelor days :-) Eat out of different dishes until there are no more left and you have to wash them!0

i tended to overestimate butter and salad dressing
and way underestimate pasta and wine0

Get a food scale and weigh it out. It's much more accurate.0

I've been weighing almost everything in grams right from the start, so I haven't been surprised by much. But I used to measure peanut butter by the tablespoon. Now I weigh it, and it's amazing how the weighed serving does not even come close to filling the physical tablespoon.
I also thought about eating some hummus yesterday. When I weighed out a serving, I decided that it wasn't even worth eating it.0
