Consistency

Hi,
I've got about 70lbs to lose and I've been trying to lose those 70lbs for about 2 years now. I haven't lost any. The most I lose is 15lbs and then I gain it back again. I have no one to blame but myself I know, but I don't know how to get myself to stick to it.

My plan is to eat 1700-1900 calories of mostly unprocessed foods, aiming for a sort of 80/20 approach I suppose.

I just can't stick to it. I do it for a week or two and then I 'fall off the wagon' spectacularly and go and buy junk food. Once I've eaten the junk it takes me a few days or even weeks to get 'back on it' as it were. I get so frustrated at myself, because its not bloody hard to just not eat too much, is it.

Maybe I just need some tough love. Or maybe I'm being too perfectionist about it, and once i've eaten the junk, i should not get down on myself and just get straight back on the wagon?

I could really do with some advice. How do you get yourself in the right space mentally to just stick to the plan?

    For me, just keep logging.

Even if you 'fall off the wagon' and buy the junk food. Log it. It really helps to get your head back into the right space.

Absolutely this. Log, log, log. Every single bite that goes into your mouth. I had no idea how much I was truly eating calorie wise, even when I thought I was eating healthy, until I started HONESTLY logging.

If you have a bad day, own it, log it, and move on.

I was stuck in the same cycle as you OP for years, I would stick to it for a bit, then have a bad day and say f all this and quit.
I was fooling myself. One day did not make me this big. One day will not derail losing it.

Logging everything and having friends on here also keeps me accountable!! Knowing that all those people, who support me day I and day out, will see my diary, makes me think twice about eating that handful of chips or ice cream or the kids leftover popcorn chicken (:embarassed: ) BUT, I also know, on those days when I do well, they will all see that to and it makes me extremely proud!!

You have to be honest with yourself and log every bite. It does make a difference. Good luck OP!!! :flowerforyou:

What helped me to maintain consistency was to have a STRONG why - WHY is it important for you to get this weight off? What will it do for you in the long run? What will it help you to do that you're not doing now? A strong why = a strong commitment! Most people just saying their goal is to lose weight but they never stopped to think why they need to!

Every day I wake up I RECOMMIT to my goal. I think about my why and make my fitness and nutrition goal for the day. I also surrounded myself with people who wanted to help me to achieve my goal as well as healthy and fit people so I was always reminded that I no longer eat and act the way I used to. Instead, I eat and act like a fit and healthy person! I talk to my fit friends DAILY to help keep me on track!

I also participate in challenge groups and talk to my accountability partner daily to keep on track!

Doing all of this has helped me to make losing weight and maintaining a healthy lifestyle a habit!

Feel free to friend me or send me a message if you need any help!

Make small goals. Like 10lbs before Christmas. Then when you get to Christmas, 10lbs before Valentines Day. Then, 10lbs before Easter. Get the trend?

My last goal was 150 before my BF's Sister's wedding this past weekend in Atlanta. I was about 155 when I started in early September. Friday, I was 148. I knew the time frame was tight, I knew the last 5-8 is ROUGH and can go slow. That motivated me. I was going to feel great, not self-consious when I met his family. And guess what. I felt amazing. Not because of the dress, not because of the shoes, but because I surpassed my goal and I'm aiming for another 3lbs by January 1st. Then I'll aim to stay there and not trend up during the winter months like I ALWAYS do.

Having something to be proud of (even if it's just giving up soda, or french fries, or cookies) will always make you stick to what you want!

^^^^ Everything she said is right on.. You have to hold yourself accountable.. we can be here to support, motivated and encourage you, but you have to first be honest with yourself.. It starts and ends with you!! If you really want to do something, you'll find a way. If you don't, you'll find an excuse. Not trying to be harsh here, but I was the excuse girl for many years.. Now, I find a way!! You can do this!!! We are here to help you reach your goals but you have to want it to reach them!! Good luck!

You'll do it when you want to or you have a reason to stick with it. Right now you obviously don't really have the motivation and no one can give that to you.

Instead of trying to eat a specific way why not just try staying in budget. I still have Iced Capps from Tim Hortons, bacon cheeseburgers from McD's and other "junk" foods but I make sure they fit my budget. If they don't fit then I either don't eat it or find a way to exercise it off. That way there's no falling off the wagon because I'm being deprived of the crap food that I really love.

Weight loss wont click until your ready. You have to be ready to be strong. you have to be ready to deal with the hardships. You have to be ready to get healthy. You have to be ready to stop all excuses. Then and only then will you find long term success.

Could you try eating the same calories but not being strict on the types of foods you eat?
