What are some of your favorite brands, etc.?
I know it can be made differently everywhere.

You can only get certain brands locally or order via the internet, etc.
There are a lot of small producers out there.

So what are some of the best brands, types you have ever tried in your area?

For me I love Apple-wood smoked bacon or sugar cured bacon.

Post pics if possible...(hopefully filters won't block at work)

PS
I will be searching and ordering online like an addict!!

My favorite comes from a meat counter at the West Side Market. http://www.westsidemarket.org/

Its Apple-wood smoked and peppered. Nice and thick too.

    God, I'm hungry.
  • Bacon is the thing I miss the most since becoming vegetarian. My favorite brand was just plain and simple, Hormel Black Label. Cooked in the oven until crispy....wow, I miss bacon!!

I recently bought half a pig from a local butcher shop, which included about 10 pounds of bacon. It was cured and cut to medium thickness, and it is amazing! My suggestion is to find a local butcher shop, or take a road trip to Idaho!

In for all the bacon pics!!

We buy a pig once a year and have it butchered and processed locally, so its not a brand name, but it's my favorite!

I love it when I smoke my own bacon, but that is time consuming and I don't have a lot of time to consume. So the bacon we keep on hand is Whole Foods Black Forest Dry Rub Bacon. Sooo good.

Center cut and made in the oven. But really, whatever it is, you can't go wrong with bacon. Unless you cook it to a crisp, that's just a waste of good meat candy.

I tried Niman Ranch bacon at a friend's house and it was SO GOOD. Pricey though: http://store.nimanranch.com/p-75-niman-ranch-uncured-applewood-smoked-bacon.aspx

I usually buy Hormel's uncured bacon.

As long as it's REAL bacon I love it. I don't do that "turkey bacon" crap.

we do the same! altho we do like 3 or 4 pigs at a time and share the meat with family and friends. This year we only had one because we got her late in the year, so her name was miss piggy, but everyday i go out to feed her, i tell her what great bacon she'll be while im petting her. she loves it. she goes into the processors today, so we'll have fresh bacon in a week.

    Recently tried:

    http://www.bacn.com/

They deliver to Canada, which is not always the case especially with food items.

I tried the hickory and applewood...both awesome.

For the more adventurous they have other flavors as well:

    Apple Cinnamon
    Sun Dried Tomato
    Honey BBQ
    Cajun
    Buffalo (flavor not meat)

As well as some no nitrate varieties.

I've never met a bacon I don't love, but Canadian bacon is YUM and not so greasy! Not that I'm against grease per se, but that's what makes Canadian Bacon one of my favs, no greasy mess.

That shouldn't even be allowed to be called bacon.

Costco carries a brand of applewood smoked that I like (Farmer's somethingorother?). But I finally made it back to the nearby butcher shop and got a couple pounds of old-fashioned slab bacon for $3.99/lb and it's very good too. Not a fan of the typical thin wet slimy stuff in the grocery store.
