only lunch option is fast food today...

I have just joined this site and need help. I have been doing the cabbage soup diet which worked, but I just can't do it anymore so I found this site. Today, my only option for lunch is fast food. Does anyone have any idea what I should eat?

Look up calories in MFP before you decide............

Every fast food restaurant should have 1 or 2 healthy things on the menu

When I'm really craving fast food, I'll hit up Wendy's. The Jr. cheeseburger deluxe isn't so bad, and sometimes I'll splurge and get a value size fry as well. They also have the baked potatoes and chili which aren't terrible options!

    Subway? Subway salads are good.

ETA: I've done that soup a couple times. Do go too hard on fatty foods right after. I guess it would depend on how long you did it for, but take it easy on your digestive system for a day or 2.

That is up to you, every fast food place pretty much has healthy options, and calorie count listed. If I were you, I would go on to a couple of their websites, and plan out some meals in your calorie range that you have, and decide from there. Don't ever be scared to eat out some place, just plan in advance. Oh and don't ever do the cabbage soup diet again.

how is it possible that you could have that that was remotely close to a good idea?

    Good lord. Exhausting.

sigh. Soup- go for a heavier soup and some light stuff- chicken salad or something. your system is going to have a conniption fit the second you put real food in it.

You put a burger in your tummy after even like 3-4 days of cabbage soup only- and it's going to die. or explode- in your toilet- either way it's not going to be pretty.

So is 'juice cleanse' and that crazy lemon/maple/cayenne thing.

Just because it's real thing doesn't make it good thing.

If you are coming off of a crazy soup diet, you should stick to a side salad or something with a small amount of meat. Your stomach is going to be hurting if you toss back a burger right off the bat.

I know about juicing and the master cleanse but cabbage soup diet is news to me.

I've tried that cleanse you mentioned (friend made it in highschool for school thing). It tastes so weird. :drinker:

You should back away from the cabbage soup and eat fast food daily. Salads are great. Chicken sandwiches. Milkshakes.
  • McDonald's premium wraps with grilled chicken are good. I think the sweet chili one has like 360 calories. I've had that in a pinch when something to go is the only option. I also like their salads. The southwest with grilled chicken is good.

Anything has to be better than this cabbage soup thing.

Whopper JR and Wendy's JR with all the veg are actually fairly light and well balanced meals.

You can order a lot of things at Taco Bell fresco style, which makes it healthier. Chicken tacos fresco style are actually a pretty good option.

    ^THIS.
There are almost always other options besides fast food, and if fast food truly is your only option select wisely especially coming off a fad diet like cabbage soup.

Edited because I am stupid and didn't realize that she said she is no longer doing the cabbage soup diet.

Regardless, why all the fast food hate. Yes, it's high in sodium, but you can find low calorie options.

I remember the cabbage soup diet being all the rage with middle aged ladies in the early 1990s. I did not know it was back.

Fitness magazine on line has an article about 30 Surprisingly Healthy Fast Foods, covering the majors.

MFP is going to have pretty much any menu item logged in the food database.

While I'm a fan of encouraging people to eat healthy, I don't always practice what I preach so when I indulge, I use MFP (or other data sources) to determine what calories I'm taking in so I know where I'm at on my food intake for the day.
  • Grilled chicken sandwhich from anywhere, no mayo and add a little honey mustard. No fries!

Basic burger not a bunch of extras on it just lettuce, tomato onion and maybe some mustard of ketchup.

Same thing with fast food salads. No bacon or eggs but grilled chicken is good along with some kind of balsamic vinegarette on the side so you can limit the amount you put on.

Someone else mentioned taco frescos from Taco Bell. Those are good because no sour cream and cheese, just meat and veggies.

I also go to Potbelly's, Jimmy John's for subs. Usually get veggie or turkey sub and stay away from all the toppings unless it's veggies. I might have cheese but then no mayo. If you really want mayo, skip the cheese and don't add chips.

Best one in my opinion is Chipotle. They have great food that you can make anyway you want. I usually go for the bowl and don't get rice or beans because they add a lot of extra carbs and calories. I choose a meat (usually chicken or barbacoa) and then all the veggies, add guacamole (cause it's good for you in moderation) and no sour cream, very ltitle cheese.

    Hope that helps!

I don't eat out much at all anymore, and when I do have fast food, I choose Subway, veggie delight, no cheese, with red wine vinegar on wheat. I get a 12" and save half of it for the next day.

Sometimes fast food is the only option, especially if your in a car load of people and they dicide where to eat. It would be a good idea to take a few minutes and go to websites like Mcdonalds, Burger King, Wendys, Taco Bell, Arbys etc to find some lower calorie options and WRITE THEM DOWN in your phone ( I use Evernote) so you can quick find them in a pinch if you need to.

In a perfect world you would never need this info because you would be making all your own foods and would never eat processed foods, fast foods and the like. Buuuuuut... this is not a perfect world and to have a few ideas written down for quick refrence is better, waaaaay better than being put on the spot of having to guess when your ordering.

I have a few food choices from every fast food chain in my area for quick reference.. as long as you stay at your calorie goal you technically can eat anything you want.

But take my advice and spend some time doing your research and find foods you can eat anywhere. Please. Its a HUGE help I swear!!
    All the best! Nix :flowerforyou:

I usually get the kids' meal because it's usually under 600 calories and pretty filling. They even come with little desserts if you're having a sweet tooth moment. Both the Burger King and McDonald's current kids' meal sizes used to be the adult sizes when the franchises first started - it's usually plenty of food for lunch.
